Audi RS6 Avant vs Mercedes E63s Wagon
Discussion
Hi all I’m after a super sleeper wagon but I’m decided on Audi V8 or the Merc V8 I prefer the look of the RS6 but the spec on the Mercs allways seems better for some reason, Ideally I’m looking for a 1 owner car with under 30k miles and full main dealer service history, Full leather interior .Whats peoples thoughts on these????
What model year? The latest RS6 is far from a ‘sleeper’, I like them got some real presence on the road.
I’m a merc fan boy though tbf after owning a c63, Id probably go for the E63 myself, it’s more subtle but still monstrous when needed.
I’d say they are both very similar just depends on personal preference to looks/ brand appeal I’d be happy with either. More colour choices with the RS6.

I have an E63S (saloon) and it is EPIC. Real character, modes make a huge difference too. They are famed for being stiff but I don’t find that at all, and I live in London / have loads of speed bumps near me.
RS6 lovely, but would imagine less of a drivers car (have only been a passenger in one).

You're looking at a facelifted C7 so the last of the outgoing model, vs the first of the new model E Class. So youve got the the old Audi cabin, still a very nice place to be with the right amount of tech and physical buttons, and the new giant screened and modern Mercedes. Thats personal preference. What isnt is how they drive, the E63s feels slightly more ferocious but will rattle your teeth out, the RS6 will cover ground more quickly and in more comfort. Whichever you pick, you'll almost certainly be in the fastest car on any stretch of road.
There's a reason Audi sell RS6s about 10 to 1 over anything else.

I can't help with your choices, but as the owner of an Alpina B5 Touring (the old supercharged one) I can say that owning a very fast 'wagon' is a lot of fun. Mostly being the fastest thing in sight on the road whilst also being able to visit Costco (decent parking spaces so I don't worry) and fill up with ridiculous amounts of stuff gives an additional satisfaction (dare I say, smugness) that impractical fast cars can't provide.
Good luck with your search and I'm sure you will love whichever of the 2 you buy. As others have said, I think it comes down to personal preference as both are deemed great cars.

Whilst I haven’t owned or driven either, I would imagine without doubt they’re both wonderful.
The only point I would consider is whether you need a car of that size and something smaller could be a more enjoyable overall motoring experience.
With the family growing up I had 5 series sized cars for years. However a couple of years ago I changed from a 5 series to a 4 series coupe and really like the more compact dimensions.
If there is no particular reason for the larger size, I’d be looking at an Audi S5, Mercedes C63 or a BMW M4.

C7 RS6 MY18 is a great car. Ride is much better than the Mercedes. But the Merc is nimbler and sounds better.
Audi is well screwed together. Not a single rattle or squeak in mine over 40k miles.
Good to have sports exhaust but be wary of DRC - it helps the car handle well but I had a set of shocks and SIX control valves because of knocking in the time I had the car. And I had the same problem in the RS4 that followed. I would have air next time.
21 inch alloys can get bent so watch for that too. Don't dismiss cars on 20s - more subtle, better ride, they are strong and very light, and I like the dish. Look better on later 21s though.

Both are on my radar.
E63 : early cars sound better then the ones with GPF late 18 on are a bit quieter. Post 21 are quieter again but ride better - the original cars were slated for a hard ride so I’d personally go for comfort seats as the sports seats are not a luxury seat! Americans report oil leaks on early cars even at low miles - part of the breather system can cause (iirc) crank oil seals and leaks which would be £££ to fix. Haven’t seen anything in the uk re oil leaks.. yet? I wouldn’t risk a satin paint - tricky to blend in apparently.
RS6 : check oil strainer recall has been done as those breaking up can knacker the turbos. Loads more for sale than the E and loads with really cool options eg night vision. A lot have been messed with and a lot seem to be cat S - I wouldn’t touch either. Super high tax pre 2015, then super cheap around 67 plate onwards if they’re over 5 years old. Shouldn’t be a problem for anyone normal but high car tax on older cars bugs me cos I’m weird. Rides better than the E. DRC suspension can be ruinous - think I’d be going for the standard air suspension. Despite the older small screen etc I love the interior and seats - build quality is brilliant.
I’m an E63 voter at the moment but I do flip flop between them depending on which YT videos I’ve watched. Only other car floating my boat is an F Pace SVR but the SUV thing doesn’t appeal compared to an estate.
Do it!

My brothers best mate has a 2021 RS6 in black, he had an R8 before that, and it’s mega.
His only car and just uses it as if it’s a golf. But the presence it has going down the road is phenomenal, the performance is thunderous and I’m very jealous.
RS6 for me, always feels like such a special car and gets lots of great attention, they do have a bit of a following.
You’ll ride under the radar a bit more in the merc IMO if that’s a consideration.
