Jap imports… yes or no?

Currently on the hunt for a new car, looking for an estate just not sure what yet. A lot of the nicer cars I’m coming across are jap imports. What’s the general consensus on buying jap imports, is it a good idea or not?

I’ve imported a couple of cars from Japan. An NA MX5, and an FD RX7.

The downsides are mostly that you will get a car that doesn’t have a full history, or at least a full history you can easily make sense of. They used to be more to insure, but doesn’t seem to be such a problem anymore. The perks of a Japanese car always used to be that they were less likely to be rusty and the GBP against the Yen meant you could get a fairly decent price.

I’m not sure it’s worth doing it for something that’s not “special” though
