So..... I've been offered a cracking 3 year lease deal for an omoda 5 in Noble trim (top spec). It's for £300pcm. With a £1500 advance payment. Has any pistonheads members got this car. It's alot of car for not alot of money. Good millage allowance too 20k per year. 7 speed DCT and 187 bhp.

Looks like a cheap knock off version of a Qashqai.

Have you driven it? What do you think? Road testers are used to driving dozens of new cars and are looking for things to praise or criticise. If you are planning to use it as a device for travelling from A to B and are happy to accept a few compromises in exchange for a low monthly payment then it could make sense.

I could never buy something like this. It's a sad state of affairs.

I’d be wary but just from a dealership support perspective.

Test drive the car and work out if it’s good enough to put up with whatever negatives you find.

For those bemoaning the choice and shouting from the sides to think about poor, little Euro manufacturers…… they’ve had there chance - they’ve taken their huge profits and decided everything is a SUV and costs £40k+

Is 300 a month for that really good value? Do you actually need 20k miles?

That’s Model 3 money (albeit with a larger upfront and lower miles) and I know where my money would go if you’re wanting an EV.

As it has a DCT box, I presume the OP is looking at the 1.6 petrol not an EV, so the Tesla maybe of no interest smile

It's not an EV

I had a poke around one recently (not with a view of buying one), not a particularly impressive car. if you were going to go cheap Chinese I can't see why you'd have one over an MG. Or look for a deal on a Dacia Duster or KGM.

Sorry to have to agree with this. Yes, the Euros had lots of chances. I guess most on here would prefer to support Europe but there comes a time when we look at prices and exclaim “ how much?” Yes, there was Covid and a parts shortage, but that can’t be milked indefinitely.

While I don't disagree at all with criticisms of 40k SUVs (although my feeling is that a lot of this is a by-product of emissions regs / EV mandates), it must be understood that there is a big difference in what you are buying beyond the headline figure.

I was speaking to a tech at dealer that serves MG and a traditional Euro manufacturer a while back. He said there was a gulf between the support that they'd receive from MG vs the Euro manufacturer. The Euro has very robust support to help with difficult problems but his experience with MG was that you'd soon exhaust their knowledge and would be on your own. I'd expect MG to be better than Omodo/Jaecoo etc if only because of being born out of a Euro manufacturer and still utilising engineering resource here and a longer history of manufacture in China.

Price comparison is valid, but I personally I wouldn't want to be the beta tester for the product or dealer network

Assuming he does close to 20k miles a year, I think it is a good deal. a 3 yr lease at £300/month plus £1500 up front is a 5+35 deal. So 40 x £300 is £12K for 3 years.

I bet if you bought one new and sold it after 3 years with 60k on the clock, you'd lose a lot more than £12K in depreciation. Plus you'd have to pay for 3 yrs road tax.

Not sure. How much margin do they make on a car? Didn't ford stop making the fiesta because there was no profit?

There may be no parts shortage, but covid lockdowns caused large inflation. And European workers demand decent pay and conditions, and we set tough environmental regulations for businesses.

But yes, it looks a good deal, I suppose. I wouldn't buy one outside a pcp or lease style agreement though where you can just hand it back and not be on the hook.
