Which X5 - 30d or 40d & LCI or pre LCI?
Discussion
After a lot of deliberating I’ve decided to replace my well loved 2019 520d Touring for a 2023/2024 BMW X5.
Hybrid doesn’t appeal due to usage and have a real soft spot for a 6cyl diesel.
Two key questions:
30d or 40d? 30d cheaper and far more plentiful. I’ve read some reviews saying the 30d is the perfect package and 40d not necessary, others saying the extra power with minimal MPG impact is worth the upgrade. Will I regret not getting a 40d if I get a 30d?
LCI or pre LCI? My budget is right on the cusp of facelift. My gut is pre facelift to get control and buttons, but at a similar price (£60-£65k) is the LCI the better all round package? I assume the drivetrain is the same?
Thanks!

I can't answer, other than I'm researching buying a 2019 BMW 7 series and most folk say the 730D is plenty, with no need for the 740D (which I think also comes with Xdrive which I don't want due to potential tyre issues)Hybrid doesn’t appeal due to usage and have a real soft spot for a 6cyl diesel.

I've had the G11 740d xdrive and 730d and G11 LCI 730d MHT, I think they are all great powertrains, the 730d MHT is probably the sweet spot in terms of performance/efficiency.If you can find one with it, executive drive pro transforms the handling of the 7 series but it's a rare option.
I love the G05 X5 so much it's the only car I've had a twice - a 45e followed by the 30d.
I recommend the 30d, if you can find a 40d that meets your budget and criteria, go for it but coming from a 520d, I think you'll be happy with the 30d.
I prefer the real leather and physical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning controls of the pre-LCI and I think air suspension has been removed or become optional on the LCI.

I have a 2023 pre lci 40d and it’s a great car. I didn’t want the double screen so opted for this. The engine is superb and returns 44mpg Bournemouth- Manchester, it goes like s
t off a shovel too.
Mine is high spec and the merino upgraded leather makes it. I went for the 40d for the extra power and for me it’s the perfect suv.

That looks good!
What is average MPG? Is it hard to keep the leather clean?!

Leather is fine. I put some leather protector on it when I got it and wear jeans mostly and it looks new still!

Wow - stunning spec, interstellar, I've been out X5'd.
The standard seat covers changed from Vernasca leather to Sensafin "vegan" leather in around 2022, unless you get the soft Merino like interstellar - I guess the sweet spot is a pre-LCI 40d with Merino.
Interesting, from pictures the Verasca leather looks cheaper than Sensafin.
