As much as I love my 997.1 C2S (with Hartech etc) I need to move on to something more practical for moving the family around at weekends and more frequent day to day commuting in all seasons.

The joys of growing kids and changing work patterns!

Budget is £25-35k with a little flex. Annual mileage is very low c3-4k and driving is typically A roads with some commuter traffic or along B roads. Automatic, 4WD & petrol are preferred.

Looking for something with a bit of character and a decent cabin, having accepted driver engagement will be taking a backseat for this one.

MPG not a huge concern given mileage but in exchange I would like to minimise depreciation and unscheduled maintenance/breakdowns over a couple of years.

B8 RS4 -
+ve = V8, estate, looks good, anticipate light depreciation;
-ve = Somber interior, aging infotainment, exterior possibly too understated

RRS SVR -
+ve = noise, cabin, seems to have bags of character;
-ve = image, bigger than I need, already have an X5 diesel as the other car in the household, reliability (?), depreciation less clear

I keep going in circles around all similar cars - Stelvio & X3M a bit pricier, BMW M’s all rear drive in the bracket, Macan’s & Panamera’s possibly combine worst traits of the above two

I’m bizarrely drawn to the SVR but have nagging doubts over JLR reliability as they’re getting to 80k+, and their overall image. There’s an early 80k-ish miler near me I will try look at this week.

Over to you for thoughts and any suggestions I’ve missed.

I never get the love for the RS6, the ones I drove I just didn’t like. I would rather have the humble S6.

I had previously discounted the RS6 as I would be right at the bottom of the market vs top for the RS4.

They do look good though and I’ll keep in mind.

Few Jaguar F-Pace SVR owners on here who love them and might be worth a look as well

You’d need 35k for a nice one - top end of the budget but I’d also suggest the F Pace. Coil sprung, a bit more under the radar than a RR Sport and the same epic engine. 21 on have a much nicer interior but they’re £45k+.
RS6 4 litre is possible - pre 2015 facelift are more expensive to tax, then post 67 plate are cheaper still.

How about a 5.5 twin turbo E63 or CLS63 estate?
Epic noise, build is good, engine is bulletproof, bang on budget and it’s not an SUV. Rwd. Big skidz.

E63S, 600bhp, 4wd, very charismatic, made from granite. 2017 one would be top end to slightly above budget.
Love mine.

I’ll have a look at the E63’s in more detail, I hadn’t considered those as I thought most in budget were RWD. I’ll swat up on them.

Is there much difference between an FPace SVR and a RRS SVR? I prefer the exterior/image of the FPace but they’re a fair bit more than the RRS equivelant. Trying to work out what the premium is for and if it’s worth it to me.

F-Pace is about 300kg lighter, is coil rather than air sprung and most importantly, very unlikely to be seen sporting a “BO55” number plate.

I’ve had similar thoughts. Stumbled across the Velar 3.0sc. Not many about ( usually diesel)and look well appointed
Not a V8 of course but might be worth a look

Not a big fan of the Velar but the newer ones are more appealing.

Surprisingly little love for the RS4

I’m really liking the Jag SVR option - are they sitting top of price bracket because they are equivalent to the facelift RRS?

Depreciation is a bit of a risk with the Jag as they don’t usually do well, but the FPace seems to be holding up so far at least.

I’ll also revisit the Macan mentioned earlier in the thread, coming back to “needs” it fits well as it’s a bit smaller than the SVRs. Not sure it’s noisey or dramatic enough though

Would running costs be similar, or would the smaller Macan undercut it?

I looked at S8’s for a while actually but I think the newish style in budget is an ugly thing. A shame as the older ones always appealed.
