Hi, help me decide what to do. I have a T6.1 Kombi Highline t32 on a lead purchase, due in September. I have a requirement for a large family vehicle, Ideally 6+ seats, and a small daily driver, plus something for the weekend if the budget stretches that far. With van and cash I have circa £48k to play with.

I know it's all subjective but i'd be interested in everyone's thoughts. My options/thoughts so far are as follows:

1. Sell van, and buy 2nd hand large SUV (Volvo XC90 perhaps), plus a city car (not one that loses cash so Audi A2), and then with money left over, hopefully a 997 C2 or S.

2. Keep van and convert to a camper. Buy the Audi A2 cash, or maybe PCP a new Renault 5. Can't afford the camper conversion and the 997, but the camper would be so much fun for family trips etc.

3. Swap van for brand new or 1 yr old large SUV, or even the VW ID. Buzz - on a lease or finance, and then have more cash for city car and 997, or possibly a Honda S2000

I know i'm all over the place with this.. hence your thoughts

I’d reconsider the 997. Early ones at the lower end are a bit risky, newer ones are £710 pa tax.
You’d almost be better off with a very good 996 which has had a rebuild…
XC90s are nice cars, but the handling isn’t great.
As for the city car. What about an Up GTI? Maybe a bit pricey?

If you need a large family vehicle then your van is "as good as it gets" in my view. Plus they hold their value.

Model Xs are now down to £20k, will tick both the large family and cheap runaround requirement (assuming you can charge at home and you don't need separate cars for these duties).

£25-30k might get you a 997.2 if you look hard enough. Or a 981 S if you don't need the rear seats.

XC90 owner here and honestly struggle to fault it. Whole-heartedly gets my vote if you can find one you like spec-wise, colour-wise etc.

Keep the van convert it and make lots of memories with it, buy something cheaper and fun like the S2000 if you can stretch to it or an ND MX5.

Thanks for all the thoughts. I have been most tempted to keep the van, but wanted someone to second guess it. Will be interesting to see how values change once the new 'ford' one comes out.

Why does the fun car and city car have to be 2 separate vehicles?

I guess it doesn't. In my head I was thinking the fun car would be at least 15 years old, and would benefit from being looked after a bit more.
