£5000-£5500 SUV Type Vehicle

Appreciate there are loads of these posts however for those that are willing to offer advice , I should be grateful.

Its a third car , used in our house as my grown up kids pool car , when their cars break down and for dog transport and dump runs when not loaned out to my grown up kids . Daughter has two kids in car seats and and I wish to buy an SUV type car . Our main car in a large SUV Skoda Kodiak and I am not letting them use that , when they call the free pool car service of mum and Dad.

I think at this price I am looking 10-12 plus years old, not a badge snob , fine with Diesel, manual or auto. If Petrol I don't really want a 1.2 engine size . I guess my limit is 120k Diesel and 90K petrol to start with . It will do about 3000 miles a year until it dies. I do all my own maintenance and have good mechanical knowledge .

I am after suggestions please . I have been doing a bit of non expert user Autotrader searches . Are Honda CRV's a strong car ? Freelander's galore but I think that's trouble for sure ? Ford Kugas are cheap ?

Any suggestion please would be welcome , we are near Horsham in Sussex, good to travel a couple of hours to look at the right car

I think you are on the money with a Honda CRV
The only 2 negatives are MPG (which will be inconsequential with your predicted mileage) and potential to rust.

Otherwise, very reliable, very versatile. We have a 2008 Petrol auto EX trim, does everything you throw at with ease in a mundane sort of way.

Was thinking CR-V, then you mentioned it! A clean CR-V would be ideal.

Also possible consideration for a Kia Sportage, for the same kind of good "just get on with it" transport.

1.5dci Quashqai. Had ours (2015 N-Tec+) 7 years, done 60k miles (it’s now on 125k) and it’s never missed a beat. Can’t see any point whatsoever replacing it for fishing/dog/tip runs etc so we’re just going to keep it until it dies.

Agree, the honda is a good option.

Couple of other potentials, mitsubushi ASX, not many around as no one wanted one, so a lot of car for the money. Spares might be an issue, but mitsubushi always had a good reputation for reliability.

I know it's a 1.2 petrol, but theyre small and light and hit 60 as quick as the diesel as above, something like a suzuki ignis. Should be pretty bullet proof too

Countryman another option, though being bmw it won't be the most reliable choice. I had a cooper S hire car once and loved it
