I sold my 09 plate Passat Estate Highline for £2800 last year, it was one of the best but they command decent money if in good condition.

Does that answer mean despite only 2 months mot it's ok price wise if it drives ok and no warning lights.

If they don't have time to MOT, you can be pretty sure it wont pass as we all know you don't need any time to get an MOT, the garage will pick it up and return it for a cost or you just drop it at the nearest MOT place to where you work.

Walk away there are probably loads to choose from.

You can save a lot of money on an older car by buying one (priced appropriately) with a short/no MoT, then putting it on yourself. Then again, you could find 1000000 things wrong with it and lose it all. Its basically what traders do all the time.

If he knows the registration, look up the previous MOT history online.

It's a risk.
A risk I might take, but advising a friend to take such a risk is awkward.

I assume it's a private sale?

As well as the short MOT, personally I would see the DSG as a risk.

You don't get much in the way of nice risk free estate cars for under £3k.
But with the mileage it has on it, it could lose a lot of value if you do higher mileage yourself.
It could become hard to move on when it's got 160k on it.

I think both the DSG and the injectors, DPF etc are too big a risk. If it was me I'd be a lot more comfortable with a petrol Avensis, Accord, Mazda 6 etc...

I know what you're saying and yes it's a risk we've both took through the years. I said to ask him if the dsg has receipts/ proof of servicing he said no so right away there's a few hundred to get a proper flush.

I know you linked a hatch but it's an estate he's after. Idon't know if he would go back to petrol, he might.

He didn't take this one though.
