Unfortunately, my RAV4 was stolen, so I’m in the market for another SUV. Looking for some advice on the best options that fit my criteria:

Must-haves:

SUV (obviously)

2018–2022 model

Budget: Up to £25k

Needs to fit three teenagers in the back comfortably

Minimum 440L boot space

40+ mpg extra-urban fuel economy

Petrol or petrol hybrid only

I’ve been considering the following but open to suggestions:

Audi Q3 / Q5

Volvo XC40 / XC60

Land Rover Evoque

Another RAV4

Possibly a Lexus (but not sure which model would be best)

Would love to hear your thoughts—any experiences with these or other recommendations? Thanks!

XC60 will be tight for 3 teenagers. XC90 might be better (I have an XC60 with 2 kids)

You're not getting three teenagers in the back of an Evoque!

Very little matches the RAV4, shame they are currently a target for theft.

Suzuki Across is a RAV4 in drag, might be more reasonable on price? If sticking with a RAV..

A Kodiaq / Taracco would be well worth considering

New Nissan Xtrail E-power?

Budget will just get you in to a new shape one and should be big enough if a RAV4 was alright.

Quite a lot of decent 2018+ disco's in budget.

A lot more room than an evoque!

Q3 is too small

Kodiak or Tarraco both a good shout.

Not sure if you could get a decent Touareg in budget

Hyundai Santa Fe or Kia Sorento.

Unless your teens are petite, I wouldn’t bother with C segment SUV’s like the Evoque, XC40, Q3. XC40 has a shrunken rear bench, wouldn’t be comfortable for a lanky 17 year old.

With Lexus it will be NX which is RAV4 size (shared platforms and tech) or the RX which is Highlander size.

I’m looking at a Kodiak at the moment, they seem pretty good value.

With the exception of "Needs to fit three teenagers in the back comfortably" all of the search criteria can be dropped into AT filters. Useful then to just have a browse and see if anything pops up you fancy the look of. Any of the Kia or Hyundai options of interest? The Tucson for example?

I think you need Touareg size.

Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, loads about, you'll get a late one for that money. I've had ours for 3+ years, chosen because at the time Toyotas & Lexus were loosing their cats. MIne has averaged low 40's since buying it, that's on a mix of electric & petrol.
At a 90th Party the other week in London the bumper was torn from one side on my Nephew in laws new RAV4 presumably as a prelude to thieving it through the headlight connector.

Plus you aren't buying it for how big the teenagers are now, how big will they be in 3-4 years wink

NX?

An RX would give you more space, but it would also be a bit more of everything.

I believe that the Lexus NX has a smaller boot and less interior space than the RAV4 despite them using the same platform. You certainly need the RX with a family. The RX is available in a long-wheelbase 7 seat version - these are just available at £25k.

As mentioned above, the Kia Sorento / Hyundai Santa Fe is very hard to beat in this segment, the value for money is impressive.

Toyota Highlanders are great cars but seem to start at about £30k. Genesis GV70 is an cool alternative, available in 2.5t petrol.

Or a CRV, again good value for money and a good size?

Purely from a personal perspective, I wouldn't buy anything from Land Rover (two close friends had engine failures on 5 year old Discoveries).
