Small automatic hatchback for around £8k
Discussion
Been tasked with finding/coming up with ideas for a small hatch (ideally Focus sized) for a family member.
Requirements:
- Needs to be an auto
- Not hideously expensive to tax
- Low chance of having a massive bill e.g. engine, gearbox etc
- Fun to drive would be a bonus
- Insurance isn't a significant issue
- Has to be ULEZ compliant
- Mileage is around 12k p.a. and want to keep it 5-7 years at least.
Having scratched my head, I am at an Auris or Prius. They have had a Mazda 3 previously.
Any ideas?

What's your usage as 12k p/a could be diesel territory.Requirements:

At that mileage, you could double the budget, get an EV and still be much better off financially after 7 years. Niro, kona both have real world ranges over 200 miles. There's also the id3 but they're a bit s
t, and you'll then have to deal with VW dealers when it breaks (which it will).
This assumes you have off-road parking.
