Friend has asked for some help.

£50K ish is budget.

Wants are:
convertible
boot for golf clubs
2 seats is fine
he previously had a very nice SL55

he sent me this which looks nice - https://mcgurk.com/aston-martin-for-sale/14927/

What would you go for?

Cheers

I am new to 911's and recently bought a soft top - that would be my choice, but then I'm incredibly biased at the moment. smile I've also had a few Astons, so I'm appreciating the differences.

£50k would get you a Carrera S Cabriolet and the clubs would fit across the back seats.

In similar market looking since a while. Not that easy. Coming from previous M4 cp Convertible
Kind of realized that I used the back seats, apart from transporting something(for short holidays)
not really much. So ready for 2 seater as well. High on the list was/is the vantage v8 roadster.
But golf bag? Stuff for long weekend for 2? Not great in that car and makes me think other directions.
Problem with 2 that I like a lot, Lexus LC 500 and Boxster 4.0GTS, is the price being bit too much over the limit.
Right now I m checking closely on Audi RS5 B8(2013-15) which has pretty much everything I want in
the price range 35-40k. Drove it and loved it. The sound! Same as Lexus, close to the Aston.
The looks are way more subtil. And I think going for a real sleeper, debadged, in black, just like any S4
or Audi A5 Cabrio.... To then speed off with 8500rpm :-)
Had not been thinking about those, but apart from Normal looks I can see only the lack of low rev torque.
But that is relative! For cruising it's more than enough and if you want fast, you get the best part of it.
Not super fast, but very interesting. Plus they might be at the bottom of the prices....
With only ca 2500 made in total, cant see them drop much more, if no crazy miles put on them..

I'd get an Exige and just take a 4 iron.

Otherwise an F type v8 if the golf clubs fit. I imagine they should as it's a jaaag

If your friend is covered in faded tattoos, missing a tooth and has a girlfriend 20 years younger with a permanent fish pout, then probably an m4.

Do the clubs need to go in the boot? Any 2 seaters got a passenger seat and footwell

911 is a pain with golf clubs, yes they will go across the backseat but not very easily, especially if you have a larger bag and you will need to take your driver out. Got a trolley? Needs to go in the footwell which means you'll be going alone.

Surprising how many M8 Convertibles are knocking around almost in budget.

The Aston will take some beating for specialness. As usual, ZX has good taste and I like the M8 and Grancabrio. If convertible wasn’t a must, the LC500 is in budget.

I have to confess that I've never tried it - so that's useful to know.

I was also going to suggest the AMG GT.

Especially as the person concerned had owned a 55 previously.

A golf bag does fit in the F-Type coupe boot, however the convertible has a boot that is ludicrously small (Clarkson did a good skit on this, where he couldn't fit a weekly shop in the boot).
