Following on form my stolen car thread and various musings, I think I have decided what I want...

Looking at getting an M2 likely an "OG" as I prefer the sound/ way the N55, and have little to no intention to track it. A M140 but a bit more engaging to drive.

It will be used as a daily commuting etc is that just stupid?

I have looked at a 2016 approved used that has done 40,000 miles, 1 owner, is in mint condition, literally could be new apart from a tiny little paint ding and a little scuff on the steering wheel.
I presume condition is everything with these and this would be a better option that a more leggy 2018 car? Or would an approved used at say 70k miles but £4k less be worth considering (Also I really like the colour of this one :P )

What should I be looking for ?

The first one sounds ok, if its just for a few years the lower mileage will attract more buyers come resale time if thats an issue for you.

I recently did the same and opted for an LCI OG 2018 which seemed the sweet spot. My criteria was that I wanted it to be original and not tuned, mapped etc along with the standard like condition and history. There are lots that have been pissed about with so much that I avoided all of those. I use mine as a daily and on the motorway in comfort it’s like a typical BMW. A totally different animal to the 140i otherwise (which I’ve also had). I’ll never track mine. It’s my only car and it’s used for everything. I love it. Mine is a DCT which is bloody good.

On a slight tangent...is there now a way the auto-rev match on the manual cars can be turned off without disabling all stability controls?

Always thought that was an annoying decision.

Did you have an auto M140? How does the DCT compare longer term compared to the ZF8? It appears I found the one I drove did not creep like the M140 but was ok when i got used.

Is there much between the LCI and the non? I have had a good look and the differences seem to be tiny kind of things you might notice side by side but nothing "Must have LCI," is there some glaring thing I have missed?

I did have the ZF box yes. The lack of creep was odd for a day or so but soon got used to it. The DCT is faster to shift for sure and the rev-matching a nice touch.

The differences are:

New full LED headlights (hexagonal twin-circle design)
Full LED taillights with classic BMW “L” shape
Dashboard has been redesigned
Air vents, control unit and audio system are all flush to the surface
Gauge cluster is full black panel
The 8.8-inch central display is touchscreen

The lights are easiest way to check for the exterior (see below). For the interior the easiest way is from the carbon fibre dash trim and the display cluster . In the preLCI it's only above the glovebox. With the LCI a piece of the carbon fibre continues to above the centre of the dash between the vents and the iDrive display.
