Right then...
We're finally "chucking" our 21 year old BMW 1 series through We Buy Any Car... Yep I know we'll get bugger all for it, but we need to get rid.

I've a stack of receipts over the 13 years of ownership that contain a mix of Name, Address, Mobile and email address.

Do I wipe through all this lot with a secure roller to redact all the info or leave it as is and I'm being a paranoid nob head ??

Initially I was going to redact it all, but I'm actually not sure now.
I realise the V5 has my name and address on it, it's more the email address and phone number to be honest.

Tbh I doubt WBAC will even want or take the paperwork so I’d probably not even bother giving it to them.

That's what I would have expected, but Mrs BS had a phone call yesterday specifically saying to bring them. Not what I expected.

If you were buying a car, would you want the paperwork detailing its history ? I would.

I dont think redacting will make any difference, not sure what the info tells anyone other than you owned that specific car on those dates, it has your address but not sure what that info would provide, its all freely available anyway.

Worst case is the new owner gets in touch to ask a question, its not like you have any responsibility once its gone to WBAC.

Redact it by all means but would include it, a lot will just bin it but tot he right person that stuff is very helpful.

Nor I.
I would be amazed if by paperwork they meant anything other than perhaps the V5 or perhaps old MOT certificates though.
If you have for example service receipts then I would redact your email and phone if you are worried.

WBAC asked me for the actual service receipts if I had them.

Just took an inky to my details.

Didn’t give them any repair stuff.

If your address is there someone might come round and rob you knowing you've just had a £50 windfall from selling your 1 series to WBAC hehe

I did on the last few sales, just took off my name address and mobile number with a craft knife . They would be legally required to do the same but pretty much every car I’ve bought since they’ve left some clue to previous owner in there !

One of the cars I bought from WBAC had a lovely stack of paperwork the PO had bundled in, it included many receipts, his council tax bill for the year, a bank statement, and a bill from British Gas. It was like an identity theft starter pack!

Thanks all, stuff it I'll leave it in. I might just run through my phone number with a marker on the odd receipt where my number is visible.

I'll let you know what they gave vs what they offered tomorrow. This is its "good" side.
The drivers front wing is rusty...
Don't be deceived by it's shiny looks, it has more in common with the Titanic when you look underneath.

I'd just redact your info as you've suggested so you don't get some loon calling / rocking up to your front door.

Also try Arnold Clark. In my experience you get a few more quid for selling direct to them.

A lot of dealers are so afraid of GDPR that they destroy all of the history with any personal information on it.

I’d stick that on marketplace for about £1200, it’ll probably be sold very quick.

Wbac is going to offer you a couple hundred quid at best.

Sold to WBAC for just under £600.
Someone will get a good motor, but it's not without its issues.
Only noticed yesterday that the AirCon doesn't work (the weather has only just got warm so hadn't noticed), and the front wing is kippered. The wing itself isn't that much of a big job to be honest.

Thing is we could have sorted it all up at my folks where they've a 4 post lift used for building competition cars through the years when I used to complete, but when do you just stop and say nah, sod it. It's 21 years old, we've had it over a decade and it's like the titanic underneath.

Regarding redacting my info in all the receipts which was my original query. I went through as blatted out my email and mobile number from receipts where it was present. Address and name left in as it'd be on the V5 in any case.

Cheers

The V5 the next owner receives wouldn't have your name or address on it.

Previous keepers details aren't shown on V5 any more?
