I am.

As soon as this guy started asking me a few basic questions about the car I thought....Huh...its all in the ad.......Tried my best to be polite...honest.

TBF, I'm deliberately a little vague when first calling someone selling privately. "I'm calling about the car - can you tell me a bit about it?" - helps weed out most traders pretending to be private sellers...

The "autotrader price" thing, though. Pffft.

Rookie error. smile

Never volunteer your address. Wait for them to ask for it ... helps to identify the total messers.

Maybe it's because I tend to be selling cars at the real dregs end of the market, but the amount of dreamers who ask to view the car, agree a time & date, but have no intention of ever turning up is unreal. I took to agreeing to their viewing, but assuming they were full of bull-plop - and not changing whatever plans I already had - until they asked for my address. It reduced the stress of selling a car considerably.

Rookie reply, he asked for my address.

No stress at all here, just shook my head and put a little mental tick in the...another one, box.

It is annoying. Im selling my daughters fiat 500 and have had the typical low ball offers. Which is absolutely fine, some I've replied to, some I've just ignored.

Did have one who said rather than making offers what is my lowest price. Told them, followed by them coming back to ask if I'd take £800 lower. Couldn't resist replying simply 'obviously not'.

I had a guy bought four VW alloys off me, took them away then a month later I got a 'return' message. Reason for return? He didn't like them any more. hehe

It's astounding the amount of people who seem to believe a private seller has the same obligations as a retailer

You were lucky they even bothered to contact you to tell you they were not coming. First rule of selling a car, never change your plans just to accommodate a viewing. If you are in, you are in, don't go changing your plans to accommodate people as they may not turn up.

I was gobsmacked that an adult male wouldn't know this. Makes you wonder about the rest of society a bit.
