Buying MPV Help!!!
Discussion
Hi all I’m hoping for some advice, after several weeks of looking at different MPVs we seem to be always coming back to the VW Touran. As we think this would suit our needs.
We have 3 kids with 1 more on the way and a Labrador to top it off. I believe the Touran would be able to fit them all in comfortably including the dog as the back seats are able to move separately.
It will be used for school runs day to day and then weekend trips but it probably won’t be doing loads of miles.
I have a budget of £6k so looking at years 2011 - 2015
So my questions are:
Which models should I avoid?
What issues do certain models have?
Should I be worried that VW are looking to discontinue the Touran and will it be difficult to get parts in the future?
Is there an alternative?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I wouldn't worry about parts as there's loads of these about. However, if you using this for mostly short trips, be aware that most will be diesel and may need some looking after to avoid DPF issues. Depends how far you are going at the weekend I guess! We have 3 kids with 1 more on the way and a Labrador to top it off. Other than that, the Touran is a good size. Wide enough for three car seats but not too large that it is difficult to park etc.
We have had 3 Tourans from 2004 - 2016. I would recommend without reservation.
They were all 2.0Tdi 150 bhp diesels.
Never had any problems with any of them.
Headlights on early models were feeble. The 3rd one had projector headlamps and I fitted these with Xenon conversions which solved the problem without dazzling other drivers (although this is an MOT failure now).

Thank you for your reply. Most helpful. Other than that, the Touran is a good size. Wide enough for three car seats but not too large that it is difficult to park etc.
With 4 kids and a dog, and therefore assuming effectively both rear seats used I'd get the larger size Sharan/Alhambra/Galaxy. The more compact size Touran and C4 Grand Picasso are fine for occasional boot seat use but if you are permanently using that space you will have no boot space for any of the stuff for 4 kids.

Have you taken a look at any of the JDM options?
Such as
Honda stepwagon or Elysion
Toyota noah Alphard voxy
Nissan Serena or Elgrand.
Some great condition low mileage options if you go import route.
This would be my choice also! There's some great jdm imported models. Have a look on YouTube for reviews etc. Such as

Thanks for your reply, do you do many miles? Do you think there will be problems if they discontinue the Touran?
The first generation Touran was discontinued in 2015, and I would guess that some cosmetic and trim parts are probably no longer available from VW, but the same will be true of other MPV's of this age from other manufacturers.Djshcbrhsj said:

As that will help with recommendations in terms of drivetrain.
Assuming it's mainly short journeys here's where I'd be looking.
