Which Car - Audi Q7
Discussion
Currently weighing up two Audi options, Volvo West London having been the most incompetent garage I have experienced, for Q7s under Audi approved scheme; sales experience of Audi thus far is flawless - people who pick up the phone, respond to emails, give the answers requested....basic stuff.
Both are one owner 55 TFSI and are identical in spec aside from the cheaper car having an S steering wheel and seats.
Car 1 is 2022 with 31,320 miles. 50% worn brakes, brand new tyres on front and 5mm on back. MOT to May 2026. Serviced Feb 2024 at 15,000 miles. £38,990.
Car 2 is 2021 with 44,278 miles. Brand new front discs and pads and brand new rear pads. Brand new tires all round. MOT to March 2025. Serviced April 2025. £37,642.
I have driven neither yet but am inclined towards car 1 due to lower mileage and age but car 2 with new tires all round and recently replaced brakes and more recent service is appealing.
Very grateful for any thoughts, conscious I have been asking a lot of questions of late and have flip flapped through various decisions....found myself thinking to buy a new Dacia Jogger until I saw NCAP rating. Slightly concerned about rocking up at the in-laws in a shiny Q7 and them thinking I am being flash too but I have a 4 year old, a 2 year old and another coming in July and think a Q7 is a pretty good option especially considering plans to do driving holidays for the next few years and wanting to do so in comfort. The wife won't drive a ford, the Kodiaq in L&K spec is a nearly, the Disco is out due to insurance in London and worries on reliability, the french stuff is out again due to the wife's views so options feel quite limited! Multimac I hear not safe enough.....thank you in advance for any thoughts!

How long do you plan on keeping it? If a long time then the year's age gap won't make much difference and the extra work done on the older car will push bills for those items again further down the line in your ownership.
Thank you. My plan is this is a run into the ground job....hoping that's a good ten years!I’d go see, drive them and poke around. Swot up before hand and watch one of the youtube mechanics about inspecting a vehicle for purchase. It will probably will be easier to make a decision.
Might even come down to preferring one set of seats over another.
Or you might see one has been resprayed and the other hasn’t etc.
Also, what sort of warranty is the Volvo dealers car coming with? Will the Audi dealers be better?

Thanks Wyson and Scot good points raised thank you.
Volvo is out of the question as it’s simply impossible to buy a car from them. I hear the Volvo Selekt warranty is decent though, have read that the Audi warranty is good too and I cannot see any glaring exceptions.
Car 1 is in a flexible schedule which means every 20k people or 2 years apparently. Last service was Feb 25 at 15k so not due. I think were I to look to buy I might demand an oil and oil filter change. Neither have tow bars or have had as far as I am aware but thank you for thinking of and will certainly check.
Cheers guys

Yes, I’d not trust a turbo charged engine to last on biennial servicing regime. These are more driven by marketing departments than engineers. I’d go for annual if not biannual servicing depending on the mileage and conditions driven. Obviously ignore this, if you are thinking of moving it on after a couple of years, but for a keeper it’s probably worth erring on the side of caution.

Thank you very much, Ray and Wyson. Just been to test drive Car one and a lovely vehicle and everything checks out however I’m slightly disappointed that it does not have adaptive cruise control nor separate climate control system for the rear of the car-I had these on a far cheaper Tiguan. It doesn’t feel like there’s anything particularly special about it giving me the amount of money concerned but I suppose it’s a big lump of metal with all kinds of complicated things going on! Another sleep due and the chat with the wife.
I'd go for Car One and as part of the deal get them to service it, not just oil & filter but a full service.
Ask them what their normal policy for changing break pads is on an Approved Used Audi?
Or wait until the right Q7 comes along in the right spec and mileage as there must be plenty for sale within 100 miles of London.

I don't think that having children actually requires a Q7.
It sounds as if your wife just wants a big car, with an Audi badge, in London.
Will it be easy to use for the 50 weeks per year that you are not on a driving holiday?

Having three children of that age requires three separate seats in the rear for kiddie seats...the jogger is too narrow for that being based on a Sandero / Clio platform. Putting one in the boot is generally not practical.I don't think that having children actually requires a Q7.

Q7 may also be too narrow looking at pictures.
OP - with three kids you will be best off with an S-Max, Touran, Citroen C5 Aircross or something else wide with separate seats. Having three absolutely screws you car wise

Edit: newer Q7 has individual seats so may be ok afterall, but middle one looks a bit narrower. Highly recommend taking three car seats with you when looking.

Lots more helpful comments cheers guys. On mobile and quoting multiple and addressing multiple a challenge but do appreciate thoughts.
Wife not a queen but she likes nice things and what’s wrong with that. Same for me. Jogger came to mind after I’d pretty much decided on an xc90 but just not been able to get a garage to sell me one.

The Jogger is a good, honest car. But not wide enough. Couldn't get three narrow boosters across, let alone a seat for anyone under 4 sadly.Wife not a queen but she likes nice things and what’s wrong with that. Same for me. Absolutely.Jogger is one of those cars that is objectively pretty crap, but because people's expectations are it will be really bad, when it's tolerable, they give it more credit than it deserves.
