I have a Golf R 8.5 Black Edition on order, where the build date seems to get further and further away, so I keep looking at the market.

I must confess, I do like the look of the Seat Fornentor (the Leon too!)

They seem to be about the same price, which would hold its value best?

They obviously have the same engine. The Seat has nicer looking seats.

Has anybody experienced both?

There are also a few very low mileage ABT VZ’s about (370bhp, 20in wheels, Akropovic exhaust, and gorgeous seats) well below their £60k list price, does this mean they’re unpopular?

Not had the Golf... nearly went for it next to replace the VZ2...but long story...

Thoughts on the Jan 23 VZ2 after 2 1/2 years... it is a nice place to be, comfy, the infotainment issues aside, it has been dead reliable. Cupra servicing experience leaves a little to be desired. Lovely and quick, plenty of modes, etc. The one thing is the stupid exhaust note piped into the cabin. Novelty at best, but at least when setting to "individual" you can switch that bit off and have everything else "Cupra". Unsure how that compares to the Golf.

Big gripe emerging... have done 12K miles in those 30 months, and it is starting to rattle and squeak internally. But it is a good looking car - facelift even better.

The Golf will almost certainly hold it's value better than the Seat. People know what a Golf R is and to a good number of people it is a desirable car so will always have a value to that customer base.
With the Leon it needs explanation more than a Golf R does even to a lot of enthusiasts, tell a petrol head you have a Golf R and they know what it is, tell them you have a Seat Fomenter VZ2 or whatever the equivalent is and you will get more blank looks until you explain it's a Golf R in a different dress and that will affect the value if that's a concern.

I had a Cupra Leon VZ3 for a couple of months earlier this year and it was absolutely brilliant - the Sabelt seats are lovely.
Imagine the Formentor is much the same, coupled with a little more power and 4WD. I'd probably go for the Cupra over the Golf, if I had to choose.

Too big for my parking space, the Formentor will be a push.

Visited a Seat dealer earlier, I can get a 2025 Formentor VZ3 with pan roof for £40k, great price, but quite some depreciation from £52k…
