I recently sold my Car to a motor trader.

I filled out the transfer to motor trader bit online.

2 weeks later the trader is now asking me to take a picture of the V5c and send it to him or post it all out to him.

Am I safe doing this? I always thought I should scrap / not share the V5c as the buyer will get a new V5c

You should have given the entire V5 to the trader. Its just easier. As an alternate, you can tear off the yellow bit, fill it in and send it off in the post, but you should have given him the rest of it.

Yes its safe to give a trader the V5 - he needs to know where you live, obviously. And he needs the V5 for the next owner (at least the 11 digit reference number and the new keeper slip).

Without the V5, if he is given a photo of it, or the reference number, he can sort things out but its not ideal for the new owner to not have the new keeper slip.

I’ve filled out the the transfer online at the time of sale. Which would be the same as filling the yellow slip and posting the yellow slip off?

So I should now just tear off the yellow slip and send the trader the V5c?

It says on the yellow slip "Give the rest of the document to the motor trader".

It specifically says on the V5 not to do that and I refuse to do it now having twice not had the acknowlegement from DVLA.

I typically give the whole V5 to the trader and notify the DVLA online myself.
