Hi. I haven't bought a new car for several years and a lot has changed since then

I'm looking at the MG ZS, mainly because of the price and 7 Yr warranty. I'm heading more towards the petrol version because I haven't driven an automatic before and I'm also a bit concerned about the expected battery life of the hybrid only being 8-10 years. I've kept my last car for 12 years from new and would be aiming to do the same.

I drive approx 8,000 miles a year. Mainly around town with longer motorway drives approx every 6-8 weeks. I'm more interested in the car being reliable and vale for money than anything else.

I'd appreciate any views! Thanks

Can you charge at home? If so, you can get a new long range electric for under £22k. Would save a fortune in fuel and give you a much better drive.

I think the pace of change is such that I'd not want to plan over anything like 12 years.

The battery should last far longer than 10 years.

Saying that, MG have a really poor reliability record, even finishing below VW.

If you want new, then maybe a dacia duster, Bigster, or Stepway might be an alternative, they offer hybrids too and fair much better in reliability, and with dacia zen also have a 7 year warranty.

With 8K a year and reliability a concern buy yourself a corolla:

There is a reason why all the taxi drivers use them plus they have a 10 year warranty - not that you should need to use it.
