SQ5 or something else?
Discussion
Live in a block of flats, so for the moment EV is out. Not doing huge miles.
Current car is an 18 year old Honda. It costs buttons to run and has the basics I need - aircon, reversing camera, android auto/carplay. I drive mainly around London (so lots of 20mph/30mph/40mph), though very occasionally manage to get out onto better roads.
I now want to get something a bit more fun, but it also has to feel like a real step up in terms of luxury/toys and tick a "prestige"
badge. I love my car, but it is a bit embarrassing when meeting funders and investment partners. Can't keep 2 cars. In terms of size, want to stick to X3/Q5 size, nothing bigger.
Went and saw the GLC/X3/Q5 and then had a go with the online configurators, to me they don't seem like a huge step up. The X5 (and also a GV80 a couple of years ago) had amazing interiors, but they're just too big. Porsche aren't doing the macan in petrol anymore, Cayenne too big. Went and had a look at the NX and it didn't feel great.
I then stumbled across the Edition 1 SQ5. Whilst the interior isn't in the same league as the X5 or GV80, it looks decent (subjective I know) and has some of the more high end toys like ventilated/massage seats at the front, heated outer rear seats at the back and air suspension.
Do you guys have any other suggestions, or is the SQ5 pretty much the only option with the higher end toys at that size? I want to feel like it's a real upgrade, not like it is when you change out your mobile after a few years IYSWIM.
If it's the SQ5, what kind of discount do you think could be had? I'd likely sell 3 or 4 years in (but will buy the 5 year Audi warranty up front). Are we looking at 30-40% of sticker price hit? At that point, will hopefully have access to my own charging point and will likely just lease an EV.

Sounds like you've done your research and it's the one that ticks your boxes the most. You've looked at the main competitors and decided which you like the best.
I have seen a T8 engine Volvo XC60 out and about which looked pretty smart. Depends if you want the volvo image though.
I think the new Macan will have a petrol option as well - google seems to suggest so
To clarify - you are buying new, and your budget seems to be around 60-70k for one of these new fast SUVs?

If you do get the Audi just bear in mind that it may not be worth paying to extend the warranty when you buy it. At the moment Audi are doing (for cars over 3 years old) 2 MOTs, 2 services and 2 years of breakdown assistance and extended warranty for £888.
…I’d get the SQ5 personally but the Macan is a good shout as well!

It sounds like the GV70 is the car that'll tick your boxes:Current car is an 18 year old Honda. It costs buttons to run and has the basics I need - aircon, reversing camera, android auto/carplay. Thank you all for the input and advice.
Just to close this out, in the end, went for a petrol Q5 Edition 1 with some extras.
I took some time to look into the GV70 and also the Macan GTS as recommended here, but the Macan felt a bit long in the tooth and the GV70 whilst nice and available at a discount, I'd not be comfortable with the level of backup/support if things went wrong going by the various forums.
The SQ5 went out of the window as while I was checking out the suggestions from here, I realised that I almost never get out of London, so end up at 20mph, with the occasional 30mph or go forbid 40/50mph when around Edgware/Copthall. There was about £12k in it, so just not worth it (plus increase insurance/maintenance etc).
Thanks again all.
