Anyone else made this dire mistake? Just spent the better part of £20k on a car after spending months searching for one that wasn't a rusty pile of st, now it seems everyone is selling theirs and it's within my budget.

Any stories to share?

I keep getting notifications from my saved search on collectingcars. I've tried turning it off but they keep sending them through. It's ok, though, because most of them are in Australia or something. Useless.

This will happen to me, plus there will suddenly be lots of the exact car I want for sale locally instead of hours away.

Its always best to go cold turkey after buying a new car.

Nothing good will come from looking at the classifieds again for a while.

I know the feeling. I want a fairly specific F32 BMW 440i. If I settle for something less specific I can guarantee the exact car I want will appear for sale within days, but then I'll have to take a £5k+ bath swapping.

This exact thing happened to me when I was looking for a 330Ci convertible a few years ago. I bought one that was close to what I wanted, and then about three weeks later I saw exactly what I wanted for sale half as far away. Obviously, like any sensible person would, I bought the second one too, and have spent five years meaning to get around to selling the first one, and explaining why I have what appear to be two identical cars to people who think this is somehow strange.

Yep always happens. But like all those “mint” cars you travelled miles to see, had the temporary insurance in place ready to go and the cash primed and ready to be transferred, most of them will be misdescribed sh!t heaps. Rest easy knowing you bought a good one.

I am literally following a Facebook thread and a Car and Classic ad at the moment for a car I’d love to see, while the one I bought is in my garage as I slowly go through it sorting the last 50 years of lies and bodges. But hey, that’s why I bought it, right?
