I’ve recently gone self employed I’m looking for a 4x4 for around £3000. Any suggestions?

What are you wanting to do with it?
Unless you want to tow heavy trailers or do extreme off road challenges, a Toyota RAV4 should do the job at that budget.

It’s mainly got to carry tools and some ladders.

I use an old Volvo xc90 for light building work- amazing car. Rear seats fold fully flat too so great for sliding large things in the back. May be a bit on the big side if you don’t need much loading area but I love mine.

Sounds like you need a small van or estate car. Why 4x4?

Vans seem to attract thieves - a 4x4 with blacked out rear windows less so - plus easier to get into the tip without a permit.

Vans just get broken into. Plus I’m not carrying a huge amount for the field of work I’m in.

Yep, £3k is CRV territory

Or maybe a RAV4. Boot opens sideways which has pros and cons.

As he’s going to be carrying long ladders on the roof, the side opening rear door will be better.

"4x4" as in more towards the Land Rover Defender end of the scale or "4x4" as in an Octavia Scout?

Not a very good one. I need something that will work.
