Looking to replace our 2017 Jag F-Pace with a new or nearly new SUV.

What should we go for?

Are Range Rover Sports as unreliable as everyone says they are?

Reliability is important. Family SUV - kids plus dog etc. Up to 100k.

So far ive looked at a low mileage 2024 or new Range Rover
And the GLE AMG 53 (I like the 63 a lot but too expensive).

Would appreciate any advice on either car or anything else we should be considering for our budget.

I should add I liked the new GLE because it has the option of 7 seats.

7 seats cuts down the options massively. I went for the Audi but I quite like the hugeness of the Toyota.

I've had 3 Range Rovers and I wouldn't have another. There is a 7 seat Defender option.

Have you found the Jaguar reliable? I say this because they share the same drivetrains.

If you want & will use 7 seats, I'd suggest going for a proper 7 seater that still gives you boot space.

If reliability is important I'd go for a Land Cruiser all day long.

All RR/LR except the RR have a whiff of chavness (although it might not help living near Gaydon).

If I had 100k it would either be a RR HSE or GLS.

But the why not spend less and get a XC90?

Does it have to be a SUV? What about the Lexus LM?

Really can’t beat something like this if space is important.

I quite like it for that. A couple of parents on the school run have JDM Toyota Alphards, which the LM is based on. They are really roomy and decent inside. If I had to cart around more than 4 people regularly, would prefer to drive something like this over a large SUV like the XC90.

A VW multivan would also work well, and hold its value, I suspect better than the SUV’s suggested. Of course its a bit utilitarian and doesn’t have the prestige factor.

I'd spend at least half of its something that's going to be a load hauler and get abused by dogs and kids. The kids will abuse it far more than dogs depending on their ages......

On top of that the depreciation would also put me off, 100k is a lot of money. I've had the same brief and have picked up goof lease deals. In that time in SUV varieties we've had an XC90, XC60 and an V90 cross country plus a few estates.

XC90 is a nice car, they've been around a long time now though with a couple of face lifts.

I had one for about 6 years. Brilliant vehicle for 4 children, fold out table, their own lights, sockets and heater/A-C controls etc. The only vehicle I had that I kept for so long, put about 80K on the clock and sold for about 80% of the purchase price. Yes, utilitarian by swish car standards but I loved it for that.

Lexus RX? Ticks the reliability box, will withstand kids & dogs, as big as an F-Pace, get a Takumi version and its got literally all the toys etc.

It only went on sale in 2022, think you must mean a difernt model.

I have a 2024 Multivan eHybrid 4motion at the moment, running it for a couple of months. I didn't want to like it and fall for the VW van hype, but I think I actually want one. It's comfortable, goes well, huge inside, and has a full glass roof, infotainment could be better, but you get used to it. Makes the T6 Caravelle feel very old.

Like already mentioned, if you're interested in an alternative choice to the normal options- imported Toyota Land Cruiser. It's the most reliable and robust SUV option.

Speak to a company like TorqueGT and they can source you one from Japan.
