The brief is simple: a very fast, good handling, automatic estate for £25k. Ideally like something that 2014+, but would consider an older car if it fits the brief.

C6 RS6. Had one, loved it. Buy one with the oil seal done!

C7 probably even better but I haven’t driven one so can’t really comment.

E61 M5 is that kind of money, bit long in the tooth now maybe but superb things. I’d love one with a manual conversion. The gearbox isn’t as bad as the internet says it is but I’d still prefer a manual.

cls63 or e63. I may be biased having had both (well e55) but they are cracking cars. cls is still a lovely shape and as a car really has presence.

I just sold my 2015 C7.5 RS6 for not far off that, £27k.

Absolutely phenomenal car, quite literally all things to all men. Would love to have another one day, just couldn’t keep this one as I have too many vehicles.

Looks okay but the rear passenger door looks like it's been painted but that could be the light.

C43 Premium Plus, would get the nod over that car imo:

Maybe a bit of a safe option but a Golf R estate would be easily within budget

Super small, Clubman JCW with 306bhp, firm, but fun

Mid sized, the most modern is the C43 ZX posted, the fastest is an RS4

Biggest comfiest a 540i, doesn't win on handling

Biggest handlingiest, just buy an E63, and the noise, the fun, the pace, you'll wonder why you even thought aboit looking for golfs, as good as the R is..

My thoughts on it is that the S6s from above are a better choice

Or this E43?

I like those but something feels off about that particular car to me. Id also look at Volvo V60/90s. They have some properly discreet performance models and come well within budget.

Some talk of RS6s, youre not going to get a good C7 for 25k unfortunately.

My S205 C63 estate (thread going in the Readers Cars section) will be hitting the classifieds later this month for under your budget.
