20k V8 Maseratis... We Need Two!
Discussion
For next year's continental trip with our neighbours, whilst on holiday in Spain for a week we managed to get enough sangria into the women to get them to agree to us both buying a V8 convertible Maserati each to do the trip in and sell when we get home. I've never owned a Maserati before so this makes me very happy.
Plan is to buy two £20kish 4.2 or 4.7 V8 cabrios. And a hat for me. Obviously. That isn't part of the budget, I think I can slip that past unnoticed...
I read a lot about clutches being an issue but also see there's a ZF auto that is presumably trouble free. I don't really know much about Maseratis other than they're Italian and therefore allegedly troublesome.
So the question is, what model and engine to buy for a blitz from UK to Croatia and back? Are there any Maseratis that are likely to make it or are we idiots?

Wonderful idea, a Maserati will not be troublesome if you buy one (or 2) that has been maintained correctly by a specialist. We have just returned from a 4000 mile trip around Italy in our 34 year old Biturbo Spyder and it was amazing.
£20k will comfortably get you a very well sorted 2 seater 4200cc Spyder, these will be the Cambiocorsa, opinions vary on personal choices.
Unfortunately you will struggle to get a well sorted 4 seater 4700cc Grancabrio, you may need to stretch your budget to £30k. Yes the ZF auto will be the easiest to live with.
Head over to www.sportsmaserati.com you will find an abundance of knowledge and experience there.

I thought all GranCabrio's were 4.7's?
Anyway grab this one & let your mate stress over having to find one for similar money, obviously do your checks first.
Front suspension can be pricey if some of the bushes are worn.

I just hope you don't get a veto when the ladies are sober!
All cabs were 4.7 and ZF autoboxes - no single clutches. As above, front susp refresh is £££. Rusty subframes are £££. Brakes are (yep) £££. Other than that apart from the usual italian stuff they're pretty good. Check the hood works repeatedly. Mine was quite italian.
Great way to travel though.
