I’m considering getting one of these cars, has to be a Sport model for my 350 miles commute to work. Quite a few about but not many nice ones seem
To be available. I had a CLK 320 CDi Sport a few years ago and it was a lovely car but they seem a bit thin on the ground now. What’s the CLK 200 like? Do they have timing chain issues? Looking for the most reliable model in the line up….

I've a 280 convertible, apart from consumables it's been perfect. Buy on condition and history. Love the smooth revving engine and 7g gearbox.

I chose the avant-garde, 17" wheels, more compliant ride & cheaper consumables.

Sorry not much help. wavey

We had a C class of similar vintage we deliberately chose the non sport big wheel hard ride variety because we were doing huge mileages in it

The ride on small wheels and softer suspension was superb

Bought my 2005 320 avantgarde (petrol) a year ago for £4k. 40k miles on the clock. Have done about 3k miles in it since and, aside from the cold winter and lack of use ruining the old battery, my only expense has been a £5 replacement brake light bulb.
Runs absolutely beautifully. I bought it as a throw away car that I didn't give a toss about , but actually love it now. I actually try and park it away from people now to stop getting any more dints hehe
MOT next week so we'll see what happens there....scratchchin
If it passes, I'll be keeping it longer term and will chuck a bit of cash at it to smarten it up a bit, Wheel refurb etc.
So far, well pleased!

Had a good run in it during the week over a mixture of a & b roads , 20mph limits, national limits etc and was pleasantly surprised by the mpg (not that i actually care what it does biglaugh)

Great cars, if you can find a good onethumbup

Just look for all the normal old car bits these love to rust arches and rear brake pipes. I don't think the CLK suffered from subframe problems.

Loved my old CLK 200 but alas timing chain stretched and that was the end of the pretty lady.

Check the rear arches as they can sometimes rust, subframes can be an issue but it's not something that happens to every single one.

Finding a good one is the hard bit, but there are good CLK320cdi's out there>:
