Disabled to normal, what a load of p**h
Discussion
I've just bought a new to me car. Everything is fine except why, why, why won't the DVLC let you tax a car as normal without going to a post office!
I would understand red tape if your trying to claim the disabled free tax, but I'm not.
So instead of 2 mins online, I'm stuck with a steel paperweight for weeks until I get the V5 and then all the hassle of going into the nearest major PO in the city.
When I get there none of them can speak English and know nothing about DVLC stuff. Total nightmare.
Why do they do this?

I bought an ex-Motability car from a car supermarket. They were supposed to help me tax it, but didn't. Luckily there was a post office within walking distance with a very helpful lady working there, who I assume had dealt with the issue before. I just gave her the old V5, which she changed the tax class on and posted to DVLA for me and I paid for 12 months tax at the normal rate. All done in 5 minutes.
It’s quite simple, walk into a post office that does car tax (some are open 6am - 10pm) if it’s in a shop, ask them to change tax class and pay them the RFL rate. The car is then taxed and a V5 will arrive in 4-6 weeks.
If you get stuck, send me the reg number and bank transfer the RFL rate plus £50 and I will do it for you.
