PCP - BCA damage charges
Discussion
Hi All,
Just a quick one. Audi/BCA took back my SQ5 4 weeks ago and there's £450 of charges for me to pay in the next month or so.
Some of it I agree with but two the BCA assessor said was harsh and I am about to contest them! Hence I wanted to ask if anyone has done this and if there are any tips/advice to help get these off the bill!...or perhaps there is no hope and just have to pay them!
The first is corrosion to a diamond cut wheel. As the assessor said, I haven't damaged the wheel so it's a bit rich (in his words) for me to have to pay it. Admittedly, I probably haven't helped my case going to hand car washes and lesson learned as now washing my new car myself at all times so this doesn't happen again. My "argument" will be the car despite being 5 years old had done 82k miles so not sure if that should be factored in? (I have some wheel corrosion on my Golf R which is 9 years old and 63k miles, no doubt by said hand car washing companies with the acid based liquid they use on the wheels and I will no longer use). Do I just argue this and say I am not paying this part of the bill?
Secondly, it has two TINY dings on two door panels on the left side doors. To the point you can't even see them unless you put your face against the side of the car and look down it....something I am surprised BCA did and frankly I had never even noticed them before whatsoever. The assessor said they can easily be knocked out, as in very easily. Again, not sure if someone has tried to argue this sort of thing before?
I know the £450 bill isn't mega high but that car was damn expensive to run and maintain and I am really glad it's gone so it galls I am left with yet more money to shell out just to close the chapter so to speak!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated! And if it's just "pay the bill and forget about it" then absolutely fair enough!

As an observation they now have the evidence of the damage which makes arguing more difficult unless you received the car with the damage.
It was never going to be pristine so you were expecting something, maybe push back on the wheel as it did well to only have that.
Still £450 is certainty and you can get on with enjoying the new car rather than having an uphill argument marring your enjoyment of the new one.

5y/80k miles I think you're on your own with the wheel - it's out of any sort of warranty, and it's clearly called out as unacceptable in BVRLA guidelines. It's basically wear and tear. When I used to return cars i'd run some 800 grit sand paper on the corrosion/scuffing on the diamond face and then give it a quick polish just before the inspection! The one advantage of diamond cut wheels as you can't easily bodge such a repair on a painted wheel
The dings however should be fairly cheap and I'd contest - they'll have a schedule of damage prices, and unless it's on some swage line which means a full panel prep + repaint, they should be <£100. And if they're really as small as you say they shouldn't be chargeable unless 3 or more on the same panel!
Here this should help...

Is there any time / mileage reference to those standards?
There'a going to be a pretty big fair wear and tear difference between a car that been on a 2yr/10K miles contract and one that's done 5yrs/82K miles.
Some auction houses have different grading standards dependent on age and mileage (but equally are a lot more stringent with some of the categorisation) but no the BVRLA guide does not split out. There'a going to be a pretty big fair wear and tear difference between a car that been on a 2yr/10K miles contract and one that's done 5yrs/82K miles.
To be fair the BVRLA fair wear and tear guidelines are pretty reasonable for the majority of lease/PCP contracts.
Thank you so much for your replies and I really appreciate it!
From reading that doc, indeed I think the corrosion on the wheel is just something I will have to pay. But the dents are definitely within the parameters on the doc and hence I will contest those and see what they have to say. My perception is that Audi aren't the most accommodating with a lot of things but it's certainly worth a try and nothing to lose.
Thank you so much again! Will be calling them tomorrow morning and see what they have to say.
