Looking at vans, using purely for commuting to work and occasionally sleeping in (3-5 hours a night), looking at putting a fixed bed in the back. I'm 5ft 10. Been looking at various smaller vans, Transit Connect, Citreon Berlingo etc. but not sure if they'll be big enough in the back to fit a bed into. Looking at spending 4k ish, nothing fancy, just want something to get me from A to B and a place to lay my head for a few hours when necessary. Other options were something larger, Vivaro and Ford Transit Custom.

Will insulate it etc. to ensure it's not freezing cold throughout winter!

Anyone got experience with this or can offer any advice. Cheers.

I bought a small sprinter. It's the smallest sprinter you can get. So low roof and SWB. It's great. It was already setup as a Day Van by the PO. So its insulated and has a diesel heater running off separate leisure battery. It can actually get too hot even in seriously cold weather if the thermostat isn't set appropriately.

You can sleep in a big car just fine. I've managed to sleep in a saloon but the boot is cramped. I did head in boot as it was much darker that way. But you can do feet in boot if you dont wanna feel too boxed in. You just need a saloon with fold down seats and ideally fold down flat. Then obviously you have estate options or anything bigger. The benefit of a Van is obviously the space. I use mine for carrying bikes or whatever. But size can become a problem. The bigger the Van then the more problems you have with parking and what not. Mine won't fit in multi story car parks due to roof clearance. Also a lot of normal open plan type car parks have a height restriction which is annoying as mine won't fit under those too. I guess they're trying to stop groups with caravans but it's odd having a height restriction on a massive open plan car park with loads of room and nothing else around.
