Ford Puma ('97), Honda CRX Del Sol or something else
Discussion
Greetings from Croatia!
As this summer and my master's degree are coming to an end, I've started looking into getting a fun car to take around the country with my gf next summer. As I just started working, I can only afford to spend around 3000 EUR on a car (assuming I also leave about that much for any needed repairs) and want to get something that's fun to drive and can fit luggage for a week away.
My first choice was a Ford Puma 1.7 as when they do appear on the market they usually go for about 2000, but my neighbour had a visitor recently who came with a mint Del Sol and that reignited the love for Del Sols I had when I was 16.
I'm mostly looking for advice between these two cars as I know they'll fit my budget. If anyone has driven both to compare how fun they are to drive. As far as I can tell, Puma should be a better steer, but the Del Sol has the advantage of an open top when you want it, and also if anyone can say how a larger person would fit into either (I'm 195 cm - 6"5' and 130 kg - 20.5 st) I'd be looking at D16 Del Sol (or B16, but they're rarer). I'm also aware that both of these cars have severe rust issues.
Other things I've considered are Fiat Coupe, Alfa GTV and GT which both are at least twice over budget, and all the hot hatches, which also go way over the budget even for the nastiest examples. As for the obvious choice of an MX-5, I know I don't fit into NB and NA, and the cheapest NC starts at 12k EUR. I'm open to all other ideas of a similar car. The only requirements are: fun to drive, space for a week's luggage for two and petrol (I hate seeing Golf cabrio diesels and similar on the road - how can you enjoy driving in a convertible when you have to listen to that dreadful rattle and smell the fumes).
If I find nothing locally till april I'll look into importing one from the EU.
Thanks in advance
