Hi,
I've been browsing these and have a couple of questions:

1. The UK gets a CX-60 and CX-80, whereas the US gets a CX-50, CX-70 and CX-90. Super confusing. These all seem to be different cars but am I missing something? Why would Mazda make 5 cars that only fill two market segments?

2. The 2.5 hybrid set up seems to be the Toyota RAV4 drivetrain - but the platforms are different? No platform sharing here?

3. The CX-80 also comes with a 3.3 diesel - presumably this is also a Toyota unit from the Land Cruiser?

From what I understand, CX-60 and CX-80 are narrow body 5 and 7/6 seaters, whereas, the CX-70 and CX-90 are widebody 5/7 seaters respectively. We only get the 60 and 80 as you mentioned, but the 60, 80, 70 and 90 are all based on the same platform. The 50 is different I believe.

All engines are Mazda's own and they even did they're own 8 speed gearbox for these cars. They've been slated for their harsh ride and clunky gearbox and have had a revision earlier this year but the improvement seems marginal. Apart from that I don't think they have many issues that I have read.

I've been looking to get one, you could get a used one for 50% of their original price if you want the petrol hybrid. The diesel is a little more, but I've been put off because of the ride - I'll need to test drive it to truly rule it out.

We hired a CX-50 in the US and the ride wasn't overly harsh imo and they don't always have great roads either. In fact apart from the fuel economy we really liked it but that applies to all US cars and isn't relevant here as it had a US specific engine.

Paralla of this parish has one so may be able to share more insight.

Hasn't the CX60 had big issues with suspension faults, software and noise insulation? Have a look on Mazda owner forums - they seem to like them and some seem to have had the problems fixed, but it seems that there's a reason they're so cheap at the moment.

Interior of dreams, esp the Takumi with the white leather, think there were two "packs" you could get, maybe 3, one was/ included a sunroof, think you needed all of them to get a 360 camera and adaptive cruise. Several dealers had demos with everything in, worth hunting out.

Although you'll pay luxo car tax until they're 5 as they were all well over 40k, and if you look at the rear 3/4 I find a lot of the lesser models look like the body is too big for the chassis, the wheels sit just inside the arches and with the overhangs front and rear, I think they look like someone's done a body swap and it will topple over.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=20... was not positive, but YMMV.

This is the 2024 RAV4 (L) and Mazda CX-60 (R) engine bay - it's the same engine so I'm pretty sure the whole drivetrain is Toyota?

The CX-60 is a RWD car with a longitudinal engine, so I think that right hand image must be something else

https://www.autoevolution.com/news/i-drove-the-202...

Edit - the right hand image above looks like the CX-50 Hybrid, the CX-50 being a smaller FF transverse engined car and the hybrid using the Toyota drivetrain as-is, as you say.

My mistake - my photo above is a CX-50.

So it looks like the CX-50 (USA market) uses a transverse Toyota 2.5 hybrid whereas the CX-60 (Euro market) uses a longitudinal Mazda 2.5 hybrid.

Maybe that answers my question above about why there are so many models - CX-50 is transverse CX-60 is longitudinal?

CX50 is the CX5 in an offroad frock. CX50 isn’t in the UK market.

As above, CX60, 70, 80 and 90 are all based in the same platform. UK gets the 60 and 80, US gets the 70 and 90. Australia gets all four..

We’ve had a CX5 from new in 2018. It’s had an easy life largely up and down the M6 and has just ticked over 110k miles. It’s a good car and so far completely reliable, though the 2 litre petrol 165 bhp engine is gutless. It will become the second car when we buy a replacement.

We’re contemplating the CX60 or CX80 with the diesel (would be our first diesel car), though definitely want to test drive the latest versions (the 2025 models have more significant rear suspension revisions as I understand). The consistent reports for the earlier cars around the harsh ride have so far put me off what would otherwise be ideal choices for us as the main family car.
