Afternoon All -

About to sell Mrs Bergs car (she had just got a EV thru work - so nothing to trade in) - and want to minimise the pain of the transaction.

Would just like a view from you good folk of PH on where the most fruitful place is to sell in this day and age?

Last time I sold was a couple of years back - (eBay - got a reasonable price)

Guess the WBAC/Motorway model is low offer/minimal seller hassle

Is there much to be gained from a well presented ebay ad with all the flaws highlighted?

I dont sell often, so really just after a view of what platform is more efficient these days.

Any views/experience most appreciated!

Bergs

Depends what it is. I've had no problems with ebay classifieds and they definitely have the reach. If it is something where you are likely to have interest from the wrong type of people I'd be much more tempted to chop it in with wbac/motorway.

I sold a car recently through Carwow. I also took it to WBAC as a price comparison.

WBAC - zero hassle but you will probably get more elsewhere.

Carwow (and Motorway) - dealers bid on your car and the highest bid "wins" - but they haven't bought the car and what they have really "won" is the opportunity to come and view the car and negotiate as they see fit. In my case they reduced the price by £400 on a £10k car - I didn't push back as they were £1.6k more than the trade in offer and about £800 more than WBAC.

I chose Carwow over Motorway as with Carwow the auction process only lasts for one working day - Motorway take longer.

Few years ago I used We Want Any Car, got a better offer than WBAC and they came to my house to inspect the car and transfer the funds so a bit more convenient.

Used Carwow, took lots of photos including the tiny chips & marks around car, very easy process.
Sold on the day for reserve figure, car was collected week later.
Chap inspected car, marks found were ones in advert, quick test drive.
5 mins later bank App pinged 17k better off, knock on door we’ve also transferred ownership & you’ll get the tax refunded.
Will be using again when wife's Puma GenE arrives.

Ah - yeah - didnt think about Carwow might be worth a shout scratchchin

the Car is a 2016 X3 - so probably £7k-£8k shouldn't attract the wrong sorts, so might see how the 'Bay fares again...

Last month we sold my parents 2018 SEAT Arona to WBAC. Got paid almost £1k (10%) more than their online estimate... I'd perhaps been "over-truthful" with the damage and the guy at the site disagreed and said it was better than I'd made it out to be.
Probably the only person ever to have this experience but I'd sell again to them.

So, just to round out on this:

Listed on Carwow - 1 day auction

local(ish) dealer bid (£5,700) - Car sold - arrange collection - all looked good.

No contact despite them (Carwow) intervening - offered to run it through again, but TBH the process felt almost as painful as having listed the car privately

(Timewasters not contancting after an auction end)

Time is pressured at the moment - so took it down to WBAC

Rather frustratingly their price dropped by 18% on collection - but i was so fked off with the total time spent that I just took it.

Next time I'm going to list privately, as my experience of these platforms has not been hugely positive.
