Looking for a new daily and came across this on auto trader. What are the 330d x drives like at this mileage? It’s got FSH which is good news and pretty good spec (pan roof, memory seats, HK speakers , cruise control etc). What are the major things to look out for on this year of 330d?

Thanks

Oil leaks
DPF
Oil leaks
EGR
Oil leaks

Driver's seat condition, worn buttons, oil leaks, consumables, oil leaks, turbo issues.

Apart from that they're great.

Check if the intake manifold and valves are full of black sludge, or ideally have been replaced/ removed and cleaned. Check what's been done with the timing chain, I'd expect at least a replacement tensioner. Injectors will probably be starting to fail with age and gunk. Have a good look at the top of the engine to see how many of them are leaking carbon (ream the seats and replace the washers) or sitting in an inch of oil (valve cover gasket). Normal semi-consumables like gaskets, belts and pulleys, alternator and starter and glow plugs should have all been replaced.

You can put plenty of miles on those engines but they need looking after properly and they're not low maintenance ime.

Also FSH might mean anything at 145k. Obviously you want as close to annual/ 10k oil changes as possible (BMW recommend less frequent) but there's a bunch of other stuff that wears out after 100k and non-genuine replacement parts could be well on their way to failure by 145k. I think I'd want to go through the paperwork in detail before I signed anything.

Over and above what the previous poster has suggested I'd personally be looking for a car with Xenon's/LED's, this one appears to have standard halogen headlamps which are woeful from a lighting performance pov.

I would guess its been serviced to BMW schedules and that`s it so it can be a bit of a risk for all the reasons listed above.

Brave going for that sort of mileage, unless you are handy with a set of spanners and don t mind a lot of maintenance.

The statistics aren t in your favour. From memory, the average scrap mileage in the UK is about 130k miles, and once past 150k miles (the economic design target of many manufacturers), they start dropping like flies. Only a fraction of 1% of cars make it to 200k miles.
