Not sure what to get. My priorities are reliability and overall cheap motoring. At the same time I don't want to be in a minger of a car. I've been researching and have come up with the usual list of cars: mk2/mk3 yaris, polo, golf, aygo peugeot 108, mk8 civic (not a very aesthetically pleasing car IMO). MK3 yaris seems the best of that bunch.

Is there something less common in this budget that I should look at? I don't do many miles a year (< 5000 miles) so petrol 1.0-1.4L hatchback is ideal for me. I'd also like to be able to do most maintenance/repair jobs myself so being easy to work on would be great as well.

Thanks

If you're able to charge at home, an EV would seem to suit your use case (ugliness aside biggrin).

Oh yeah. Seems i'm still not used to EVs being a thing. I'm looking to make a move from the south of England to the north and very unlikely to have home chargeability.

I did consider a hybrid like a CT200H (priuses are hideous). But rather not live in paranoia of my catalytic converter being stolen.

I'd like a Prius. I'd forgotten the Cat. theft issue.
