Evening ladies and gents

I have a new car dilemma and not sure what to get!

I currently drive a Tesla Model Y Performance but I am looking for a change, no reason really, just because.

So far I haven’t owned nothing truly exciting, just a load of posh economical cars, and nothing stupid (apart from a track ready Type R) because I do a lot of mileage (free charging at work) and I just could never justify them much to the chagrin of my friends.

Initially I had a deposit down on a Taycan 4S but it fell through at the last second. However, at the same time, I just found out I got a new job which now means I no longer have to commute at all. And that got me thinking, why spend all that money on a second hand posh EV when I can finally get something a bit more exciting BUT I’m a bit of an old man inside and constantly worry if I’m going to regret it?!!

My only requirements are these:

Up to £55,000 (but doesn’t have to be that much)
Newer than 2018 but not brand new
Can seat four
At least 400bhp
Halo car (in the lineup)
The depreciation and running costs aren’t catastrophic (at least 25mpg please)
fun or interesting, because if its not then I will just buy a Taycan as that was the most fun “sensible” car I have driven that also costs nothing to run.
Not a bare bones track car, I live in London and I also suffer from poor health so I need something with an auto gearbox, comfortable seats with lumbar, parking sensors and camera, and ACC too. I’m only going to have one car so if it makes me less of a man, so be it.

I have thought of these

1. BMW M2 (G87) - I think these look the dogs and I promise I am not blind.

2. BMW M2 F87 Comp - seems like most of the thrills for 75% of the price but the interior also feels noticeably more dated and cheaper

3. BMW M4 Comp F82 - as above

4. BMW M4 CS F82 - seems too raw for me

5. Mercedes-AMG C63 S - don’t know much about this so would appreciate input

6. Land Rover Defender P400e - slow depreciation makes it feasible and I’ve always liked the look of this, however my Tesla is already too wide for the many 6’6” restrictions around here

7. Porsche Macan GTS - interesting powertrain but don’t know how special it is as its a Macan, also showing its age

8. Audi RS3 8Y - I can’t for the life of me understand why these are still well over £40k at 4 years old, are they brilliant? Truly could br used as a daily.

9. Mercedes-AMG E53 Coupe - these are stunning in and out and is definitely a daily but also probably not that special??

10. Porsche Taycan Turbo - stick to the plan

This meets many of your criteria.

Maybe not a halo car but definitely a unicorn

I'd second the suggestion of the Quadrifoglio.

I was considering an M4 (mostly because I wanted a convertible) but couldn't find any local to take a look at. I widened my search to include non-covertibles and found a Quad nearby. Took it for a test drive and loved it (although it wasn't the one I bought).

They are excellent cars - very good at being "boring" which is how I want mine most of the time, but also excellent fun and very quick when you want them to be.

My only complaint is the rate it drinks fuel even when driven in boring mode - but that is partly because a lot of my journeys are fairly short.
