WBAC for valuations
Discussion
No - they offer "trade minus" because the cars go to BCA auction (where they are traded at trade price), so the "minus" is the admin costs of running the WBAC branch, delivering the car to the nearest auction centre, entering it into sale there etc.
There are typically 3 prices: trade in/part ex (essentially the same), private sale, retail sale. Obviously the trade in is for a car with possible faults, dirty, etc. The private sale you'd hope the seller has at least cleaned it and made it reasonably usable; and the retail price reflects that all retailers must effectively give a "6 month guarantee" (because of CRA2015 obligations), have probably serviced it, seen to the scratches and dents on bodywork, thorough valet, etc etc
These days, I go to hpivaluations.com

For mainstream stuff, then it can be a half decent indicator of trade in values for your car but anything outside of their usual fodder can be hammered in the nuts value wise, equally their algorithms will lower values for stuff they already have a glut of so use it with some caution and compare with other valuation sites or dealers.
It's a good starting point if you want to sell a car, it places a floor on what you can get for it - assume you're honest when it comes to stating condition etc when putting details into WBAC.
It's not a good guide to how much you'll pay for a car though - unless you're buying at auction. If you're buying thru a dealer there's prep, warranty, o/heads, profit etc the dealer will add in, so the WBAC value will be nowhere near.

I had my X3 valued through WBAC via the website. It was leaking pretty much everything from everywhere so it was time for it to go.
The first time I valued it they came up with one price that was low but wasn't too offensive, the second time I tried a few months later it was much lower (pretty much half of the original valuation). I took the car to one of their places anyway for them to look over and ended up walking away as the guy tried to knock more money off. Pointless. I later part exchanged it for more than the original WBAC valuation.
We did get rid of a smart car through them though, the process was easy enough and the guy didn't mess us around with the price too much. Probably easier for them to shift.
So, if you do use WBAC take their first offer and move quickly. The guy at the drop off point even said as much.

Just sold an L200 to WBAC actually decent offer which expired by the time I had got there, rentered the details on site and it had gone up by a bit , I had been completely honest with the description about condition and only one key so less leverage me thinks to reduce their offer.
Not always the best place to move a motor but I think it depends on the market , I think also during the mad lockdowns those prices are long gone.
