I’ve seen a private car sale
The seller has sent me some info but when offering to see car or purchase , comms has gone quiet.

Maybe it sold?

I got a friend to message which he got a response to say still available but when tried to call no answer and when asking to view went blank.

It’s not like they are asking for a deposit or anything, so I don’t get it.

It’s only a family sized hatchback at below £10k.
Although price does seem good, slightly below a WBAC valuation , so maybe too good to be true.

Thoughts ?

Probably just weirdness or busy time of year I reckon - I wouldn’t overthink it.

Does this sound like the sort of person you actually want to deal with? Personally I would see this as a major red flag and look for another car.

Usually give benefit of the doubt, but when ignored on WhatsApp’s , phone call and SmS but then asked a friend to see if he had any luck in contact after, he got a response via email.

Not sure why you would list on autotrader if no intention of selling , unless it’s like a toy car and showing intent to other half of listing to get rid lol

Whilst I did get some WhatsApp photo of services.

All strange.

Used market for a good car at a good price is hard; as don’t like over the odds on some garage margins.

£7-10k doesn’t get much, unless old or mega miles

Probably thinks you're too much hassle and doesn't want to deal with you.

It's PH. Always have to jump to the most statistically improbable outcome.

No scam has been actually made but a fraudulent and not actually a car for sale, as said to a mate it’s still available whilst I made an offer - really close to asking price and when my mate asked for viewing he’s been blanked too

I’ve asked £250 , equating to about 3% off to cover for a short MOT and imminent service.
Pretty much travel to purchase

Not bothered with anything else.

You may as well have shouted "your best price" in broken English

My bad, should have said I offered £250 below asking
Car was £8000 whilst I offered £7750 with MOT due soon; which I didn’t think was offensive?

Whilst I was selling my last car at £6k I had people offer me half the price without reason!

There are all sorts of weirdos trying to sell stuff online that haven't got a clue how the real world works. In the Facebook Marketplace thread on here it's full of them, people trying to sell stuff but won't actually let you come collect it, you have to ring from some random street half a mile away as they are scared to death you'll steal their dog or some nonsense. Also, if your profile doesn't meet some arbitrary criteria they've dreamed up in their head, they'll just totally ignore you. There's a lot of damaged people out there who are frightened of their own shadow.

My only explanation for what you are encountering is that you've asked too many questions about it and somehow pissed off the seller who now sees you as a pain in the arse and is ignoring you. But that said, that doesn't explain why he's not answering the phone as you wouldn't know it's you calling and not someone else. As you've said, doesn't seem to be a scam either as he's not asking for a deposit or wanting to you buy a fake car report from a website he owns.

I'd forget about it and move on. Sounds like you could be dodging a bullet anyway.

Of course, as this is Pistonheads forums, then it's automatically your own fault !

I find using the telephone works well.
Thumb based comms don’t really sell you to the seller.
