Anyone bought their dream car after cancer diagnosis?

Always wanted a 911 since being a kid, sadly at 45 I got stage 3 incurable non hodgkins lymphoma and just finished 6 months of horrible chemo, results due this week
After always wanting a nice 911, now I just don t seem to care as much about owning one. Anyone else been in a similar situation? I m 46 now and always loved cars.
Never wanted a Ferrari or lambo, just a 911 but I seem to have lost my desire for one. I don t want to leave a headache of selling an expensive car for my family if the worst comes sooner than expected
Cars I ve owned and loved, D2 S8, UrS6, c5 RS6 avant, audi 80 sport, 635d, 640d, e39, 530 sport, r129, Panamera and a few others..

Bloke I know got cancer in his late 40s and purchased a Alfa Giulia QV, his wife has kept it now hes gone.
When I was growing up, my dad dreamt of either a BMW, Mercedes or SAAB, just before dad got ill he decided to get a Mercedes (C-Class) on a cheap lease and hated the thing haha.

Why do some folk worry about what they’re leaving when they pass, whenever it comes? Don’t. If you’ve always wanted a Porsche and have the energy and funds to buy one, get it bought now! You should be trying your best to live every day for you, for love, for smiles - when you’re gone, you’re gone - don’t worry about it.
I'd had 3 x TVR Chimaera and a money-pit Cerbera by 2019 and had almost given up on the brand. I'd shook my head at the asking prices for TVR Griffith 500s for years, after all it's almost the same as a Chimaera. 
After scans and a biopsy following bone pain, I got a myeloma diagnosis in 2021 and whilst the treatment was successful (I had radio therapy for a bone plasmacytoma the same year), and whilst still on monthly intravenous treatment, I decided sod it, and bought one. I'm in remission (6 monthly blood checks), and still have the TVR. It's had some pricey maintenance recently (a respray too) but I don't regret it one bit.
As long as you can afford it, go for it. But if you are really too worried about what will happen later, perhaps hiring one would be a good idea.

Get that 911 and best of luck After a good mate of mine got diagnosed with late stage Pancreatic cancer in 2017 I thought F it I ll get myself a dream car. I bought an SL55 F1 pack and still enjoy the drives.
However, I did the sums and if I d put that money into Bitcoin it would be worth about £2.5 million

Sad but true story.
Friend of mine (Back in 1986), who I met whilst at the TT races, developed cancer six months later in his thirties, and, virtually bedbound with two or three weeks left to live, bought a brand new Harley Davidson because it was always his ambition to actually own one.
His wife said he liked looking at it through his bedroom window, and they had come to some arrangement with the dealer to sell it back to them with zero miles on the clock.

I was in NY many years in a little store called the Last Woundup. It sold tiny trick windup toys, and its motto was “Don’t postpone joy”
You never really know what’s round the corner , so if there is something you really want to do, I would go for it. I have had amazing fun with Porsches over the years and at this age (77) I am aware that time is not infinite; I still enjoy my cars.
You generally remember the first time you fulfilled your dream but you can’t predict the last time. I wish you some real satisfaction in going for it.

I know what you mean about always wanting something and then suddenly not caring much about it. Maybe there are more important things in your life to care about than a 911? Maybe that’s what your unfortunate diagnosis has uncovered? Or maybe you are simply on a low from the treatment. I would just go with whatever you feel like and not try to force an interest if it isn’t there.

I would think that the 7.2 would hold value better though they are very different cars. The 991 is bigger and in my view more comfortable but the 7.2 is a more engaging driving experience .i also prefer the steering and gearbox of the 7.2. Try both of them.S8QUATTRO said:

I keep thinking they could sell it if things turned bad very quick I had a 2009 997.2 C4S bought at 4 years old from a Porsche main dealer. Ran it for a couple of years and sold it to an Indy dealer for within a couple of grand of what I paid. Looking at their prices now, nearly a decade later, and they are much the same!
Just buy it and enjoy it, leave some info such as the previous advert behind should the worse happen or information on someone who can help with the sale.

My Dad passed at the end of last year after a longish battle with prostate cancer and heart problems, I am having similar thoughts myself now about buying something I have always wanted to honour him.
996 Turbo is mine or maybe a 996 C4S.

Father in laws best mate was diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer which has sadly taken him in the end.
His dream was to own a British racing green Jaguar, I think in reality he took my father in laws dream and ran with it but that’s by the by.
He bought a S type Jag and drove it around for a couple of years and owned it until he died. The family offered to give it to my father in law but by then he dint want it and one of the chaps sons drove it for a while before selling it for not a lot.

I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer late 2018, I had taken early retirment 2 years before. I had no idea what the future held at that point. Started on 3 years of hormone therapy early 2019 and had 20 sessions of Radiotherapy end of 2019,beg 2020. I had a critical ilness policy which paid out and my wife agreed to let me spend some of it on a car I had always wanted, a Maserati Granturismo which I bought late 2019. I already had a D2 S8 and a C6 RS6 Avant. The Maserati was a stunning looking car and sounded fantatstic, however I never really felt the driving experience to be what I expected, it was always twitchy at the rear, especially in the wet. I sold it last year. Thankfully the treatment I received was successful and I'm still cancer free today. Still glad I scratched the GT itch though. Also sold the S8 and RS6 and now in a D4 S8.
