I'm helping the son's GF buy her first car. We've seen a nice little Clio which at an earlier point in it's life had a 50,000 mile haircut in one year. It looks like the MOT tester had fat fingers as no-one wants to do 50,000 miles in a year in a 1.2 sh!tbox (do they?) wink

I've done an Experian Autocheck and nothing else has my Spidey Senses tingling. Does this look legit?

Will be a typo. 1 previous owner since 2018 (I assume called Holly) and a consistent low mileage.

That's the same date as the VRM change to HOLLY... so it will be the dealer MOTing it at point of sale so It has 12 months MOT. However, that doesn't match teh most recent keeper change in 2018 (?)

There's no way someone did 52,000 miles in a year, so the 72,299 is meant to be 22,299

Why can't anyone do 52k in a year ?

I did 132k in one van in a year, and it wasn't the only one I was driving, and driving my car too.

Nearly killed me but hey, needs must lol, 52k is a price of piss.

Yes, people *can* do that, but the chances of that happening in a small French hatchback with the same owner that’s doing a tenth of that is so close to zero as to not be worth worrying about.

It’s a typo when entered on the computer, and as long as the car looks ok it wouldn’t worry me.

Somewhat true, but it can happen, the way you said it was as if nobody can drive that far in a year lol. And I have seen, and bought, little hatchback cars with starship miles, like a 1.25 Fiesta that got to over 250k before it got written off.

What am I missing here? The Holly plate was changed in May 2024?

Possibly sold by a dealer, and the buyer wanted a fresh MoT since it had the wrong mileage on the previous one? Dealers often put a fresh MoT on a used car, often suspiciously clear of any advisories. rolleyes

Gut feeling, it's probably okay. It's a 10-year old car, so I'd be more interested in the condition and the owner, if it's a private sale. How long has the current owner had it, as plate changes don't necesarily mean owner changes?

2020 was a year of lockdowns, confusion, extension of mot-expiry dates etc., garages working under unusual conditions, and whilst the 'out-of-sync' mileage was prior to lockdowns, the following period was challenging for many. Maybe the second MOT was seen as a way of 'correcting' the record if it wasn't spotted at the time of the original test.

Is there any paperwork to back up servicing etc? It wouldn't stop me, but would make me more inquisitive to try and ascertain the reason, however, it might be an issue at a later sale time, if that's a concern, unless there's supporting evidence.

Have you seen the car?
