Hello All,

Looking for the usual PH guidance on a what next for me car.

Sold my 550bhp M4 randomly on Friday, I got made an offer I couldn't refuse.

So I am after another "toy/weekend car"

I have a 4yo and 5yo who love to go on runs in the car - So 5 door ideally - The M4 became a bit annoying to be honest.

Previously I had MK3 Focus RS early last year, really enjoyed this but it was a base spec Nitrous Blue one and I had to scratch the M4 itch, done Evos, Cosworths, M3/M4s, Range Rovers etc etc

So I keep going back to either

C63 V8 Bi turbo - It's on my list of cars I fancy, 4 door but it's a big bulky car, seems overkill for the lack of miles I do - Not sure if I want RWD again either as having 550bhp in the M4 you could nowhere near use it on the road fully.

Focus RS MK3 in White but with lux 1&2, forged wheels and shell seats (I would tweak it to 400+ to make it come alive a bit like my last one)

A45 AMG - Never had one, they seem fun, make a nice sound - I know early gearboxes are a bit chocolate and the majority seem to be Bradford spec

Money wise I am open to around £25k or there abouts.

Pre requisites are

Has to be a non smokers car
4 door
Must have POWER smile
Nice seats
Fun

The white RS I am looking at on AT is 1 owner, 68k, FSH, shell seats, lux 1&2 and it's £17k, nice car for the money.

If it's an A45, I would like it to be white, aero kit, black wheels or the matt grey or hulk green

I maybe missing cars off the list so please help....

FK8 Type R? Fits the bill nicely and IMO is one of the best hot hatches ever. I've had mine a year, it replaced my 981 Cayman and I haven't looked back.

Perhaps an Audi RS3 if you're looking at super hatches? I normally wouldn't give an Audi the time of day, but the 5 cylinder is very appealing and I understand they're very tuneable.

Friend of mine had a A45 new in 2017, very subtle in silver with the small wheels & clear glass, but had H/K, sunroof etc. It didn't feel as fast as the numbers suggested, though it was a far nicer car than the A35 that replaced it.

Oh now I have not even thought about one of them, I will do my research.

Thanks for that.

The only thing that puts me off about the A45 - Is the fact it comes across as quite a feminine car - no offence intended. First thing my wife said was that.....

RS3 - Never thought of that. Is that the same engine as the Golf R. Just the majority I see online are abused Bradford spec as I call it.

If I was after a bigger car,. RS4/6 fit the bill but an estate is a waste of car if that makes sense.

If my girls were not into the cars at all I would have a 2 door but they always need the toilet or want out etc so the M4 just was becoming a pain.

GLA45 AMG, more space in them and they ride a lot better than the A45, a better real world car IMO but just as bonkers, on earlier cars make sure they had the AMG performance pack ticked as this gives race mode on the centre dial, this one is over budget but a face lift model

RSQ3 is another good option, bigger and better riding than the RS3 but the same legendary 5 cylinder engine

Nope, the Golf R is a 2.0 straight 4 pot, the RS3 is a 2.5 straight 5 pot.

I’m in a very similar position with the same budget, have a big practical car for family duties and toy car which does very little mileage but must have at least 4 seats.
Recently sold my E92 M3 which I loved but due to the time to warm up, RWD and lack of rear doors it didn’t get used anywhere near as much as I’d have liked. I think I’ve settled on a 2017/18 RS3 and have ruled out 3/4 cylinder cars but keen to see other suggestions.

If you enjoyef the focus then get another.
Not a well loved car here but if you liked it thats all that counts.
The RS3 is a great shout though as the engine is legendary.

What is it that appeals about power?

I do get it, but I don't.

Is it the urge to accelerate faster and faster, to shave a tenth off your 0-60 time by blowing another £10-20k swapping cars?

Don't get me wrong, I've done the same with target rifles and saxophones but that's more to do with precision and fine tuning.

Or is it the prowess of turning up in something new, to you, and a bit of showing off? Nothing wrong with that either by the way. I love driving something people aspire to.

But what of that old fashioned analogue feel? You may have never experienced the rawness of driving back in the 1970's or 80's. No driver aids. No cossetting tech making you feel you're an F1 driver.

Kids? How about a four seater, well 2+2, driver's car. A Lotus.
Elan plus 2.
Sorry about the four door thing... but they're kids, they'll scramble in.

Something like that has probably never entered your mind to consider?

For me it's an acceleration thing, love the feeling of it to an extent.

Nah it's a pain strapping the kids into the seats, next year they will be able to pull the belts on themselves but the M4 was just not the car to do it with the seat and belt config.

I like the Focus as it's cheap useable power, easy to squeeze more out of, can turn up to a track day and come home or take it into work if I feel the need. Easy and cheap to work on.

I am going to have a look at my palds Nardo RS3 tonight, it's not for sale but the age and budget I am looking at.

I was toying with the idea of another classic Impreza or something but rust etc and no iso fix..

I hope you enjoy whatever you get next more than the M4, because that didn't last long at all with you. I do feel your pain having to strap the kids in though, and it was loads easier once my youngest could do the seatbelt herself for sure in mine as well.

4 doors definitely makes a big difference, but I personally prefer the 2 door Coupe shape over 4 door hatchbacks and saloons though in comparison.

I know.

I loved the M4 but the girls just loved coming with me and it pained me going in and out so much with them.

I originally wanted a M3 in YMB but they were all Cat cars down the road, I took the M4 as it was local.

It has stayed local as well. Really nice lad made me a cracking offer where I made money and he still got a nice deal.

I’d say next year when they can strap themselves in it will be no bother.

I miss the M4 as it was ferocious and wild but equally I was frustrated with it in certain areas. I would have another tho.

Tonight I put a deposit down on a

Focus RS MK3 in Frozen white
2 owners
Never smoked in
Lux pack 1 & 2 and all the optional extras
Forged wheels in black
Shell seats
Just had 4 new Michelin PS5s
New discs and pads at Ford
Full Ford service history
Head recall

It’s immaculate

He’s late 50s and a Ford fanatic. Has a Cosworth among many things.

Collecting it Thursday.

Can’t wait.

I’d post pics but he’s not taken the best photos.

I’ll make a thread Thursday evening when I get home with it.
