Hi all,

Not sure if the mods will nuke me into oblivion for this one but here goes.

I've been working on a little tool that makes searching for cars for sale a little easier.

The idea is input one set of data and then you can click through to every site you would usually check.

Its very rough and purely a proof of concept but give it a go, any feedback welcome via the email.

https://www.mynextwheels.co.uk/

Mods be kind, i'm not earning any money off this and drives traffic to the Pistonheads Classifieds wink

Thanks!

Nice work smile

I put in Emira under £55k and it did come up with the 2 at that price on Autotrader and a parts only on eBay for £20k.

Autotrader, not you, then suggested that I might like a Peugeot 208 biggrin

That is good! One thing - I shoved in sub 20k Porsche 911s and it brought back results for AT, PH and eBay but when I clicked the C&C link it opened a new window with your website in it. Are all the fields mandatory (I missed some out)?

Only the Make/Model is mandatory, just tested here and it seemed to work ok.

Great work!

Does it currently only pull data from Pistonheads, eBay, Autotrader & Car and Classic?
Are there others to pull the data from - Car Gurus? Gumtree etc?

Perhaps this is the answer to all of the dealers being (very) unhappy with Autotrader....smile

I'm looking at other sites to bring in, will add these to the list.

It's like AutoTempest for the USA, but for the UK. Let's hope it works out.

Newsnow used to do a similar thing and pulled from various sites. However, in recent years it has vanished unfortunately.

Was always a good tool to use.

You still need to click into each site individually though.

It would be a neat trick if it could provide a comprehensive list without having to click into each site.

I know, moon, stick, etc hehe

Does anyone, except a mentalist, buy a car from FB marketplace?

That was the original plan but unfortunately the lack of API access for the sites really limits it. AT also have some very tight policies around showing their content on your page.

I built this in 2009. It was called CarSpy.co. It did work but involved breaking all the T&Cs of Autotrader and PH, since I was scraping them. eBay you could do it with the API. OPs site is similar to autotemptest in the US and somehow they had money to sponsor podcasts etc.

I just put in a car, a max price and a distance from my postcode and it worked well. smile

Cool idea,

Always thought it would be a good idea to have some form of a "I'm changing soon/coming up for sale in the next few months" section on a site - where if you are thinking of changing cars in a few months time, and have a PH style car - you can let people know that it's likely to be available shortly - with pics etc.

Would also help if you are seaching for something a bit special (for example if I thought a car in particular spec/colour was going to become available, I'd consider registering an interest).

Just a thought ....

Very good effort!

You've done something I've never thought of doing on AT before... doing "all" models then refining in the keyword field. I searched on your site for A6s, body style "estate" between 2017 & 2019 and AT showed me both Avants and Allroads, which is helpful!

Thanks, the site was born out of me searching for C63 Estates. I got bored of having to filter on C CLass, Estate, 6.0 engine laugh
