Would you pay your entire lease upfront if you were given a significant discount?
Nobody does it right now but I'm curious to find out.

e.g. Ford Capri
A 4 year deal with 1 month initial rental costs £15,461
A 4 year deal with 12 month initial rental costs £15,081
If you were offered a 4 year deal for £14,500 (pay upfront), would you do it?

Vauxhall Frontera
£4761 on (1+23)
£4639 on (12+23)
Would you bite at £4500 at (24+0)

No, because £14500 would earn over £500 per year in interest, even with rates dropping.

No.

A big part of the appeal when leasing is being able to leave my savings / investments untouched.

If I was going to spend £15k in one go I would just buy a £15k car.

Seems it could get complicated if the car was written off too.

Also, if the lease firm have all your money upfront, what incentive do they have to fix any problems that occur?

All good input. I agree that £14K is a lot but if I could wriggle a decent saving on a cheap runner for 2 or 4 years, I would consider.

I looked into this with Contract Hire on behalf of a company I do some work for. They wanted to contract-hire a couple of Citroen C1 type vehicles, but owing to the unique structure of their business - they were very cash rich but very credit worthy poor.

The logic being that they wanted to pay the deposit and 35 x rentals up front, and in one go.

They struggled to find a Lessor who would even entertain it, let alone agree to it. I could not bend them either, so it fell by the wayside in the end.

I have a personal friend in the leasing arm of a large manufacturer, and he said it was also no-go as an industry. The logic being that they wanted to ‘hear’ from the lessee once a month in the form of a monthly payment, as it protected them against theft / fraud / conversion theft etc.
