Picked up a used Mondeo yesterday and when i got it home and was having a good look around it I noticed a load of rust on the bottom of the drivers inside door.

I also checked the other doors after this and the passenger front door is bubbling but the two rears are ok.

I’ve sent pictures to the dealer as soon as I got home yesterday but they haven’t looked at them.

The car was from a Ford dealer and is a 69 plate Mondeo with 58k miles.

I also had issues with the cruise control, front collision system and hill hold assist errors come up on the drive home which meant I had no cruise control.

I am really concerned I’ve bought a Friday afternoon car and that if they repair the rust issues it will just keep returning as it’s obviously rusting from inside the door out.

What are your thoughts.

Should I just reject the car or persevere.

There isn't much working fine with car by the sounds of it. The rust is just tip of the iceberg.

Did you buy it very cheaply or? Why are all the systems kaput?

There shouldn t be any rust on a 69 plate car unless there s been a st repair or it been flooded at some point.

See what the dealer says when they open tomorrow but I d be inclined to get my money back if possible. If that’s what you can see, what’s lurking where you can’t?

Definitely reject. Plenty of mondeos out there that aren't rusty. And you'll know where to check next time

With that slightly strange rust pattern plus the electrical issues, it could have been in a flood?

Send it back if you can.

When I started reading the post I started to think we re probably talking about an old shed and the usual suck it up advice would apply but that rust is bad for a 2019 car. I certainly wouldn t want to be keeping it.

The previous couple of generations of mondeo had excellent rust protection so seeing rust on them was a good indicator they were hiding a hard life.
It seems fair to assume the same with this one there is no way it should be anywhere near as bad as that unless it has had some low quality body repairs or its spent the last 6 years launching a boat into saltwater.

Thais for the replies.

It’s a 2019 69 plate with full history and 58k miles.

I placed a deposit two weeks ago and dealer has done some work to it before I collected it including full service, new mot, new front discs and pads and wheel refurb.

I think it’s been someone’s company car.

I paid £12995 which is about right for it.

The dealer is 100 miles away from me and seemed genuine enough

I had loads of lights come on on the dash when I tried to see the cruise control for the first time on the drive home. Probably should have turned around there and then but instead phoned the dealer and the sales guy sounded shocked and said he would get their warranty person to ring me to sort out a repair under warranty at my local garage.

Then when I got it home I found all the rise so phoned again and got asked to send photos over to their what’s app number which I did but no one has looked at them.

They replaced rear high level brake light as part of the prep as the boot floor was wet.

Had some rain last night and there are spots of water in the boot again as they look like they are coming off the boot seal so don’t think the leak is sorted either.

I have never seen rust like that, in that location, on such a young car. I can't believe they are as from the factory to get like that - something else has happened, in my opinion. All factories have decent paint shops nowadays.

I would not be keeping that car.

It’s only a matter of one more winter and that will be visible on the outside of the doors also, fixing and repainting will just see it return in a matter of months/ a year.

Crikey that’s not a good sign. Car looks very nice though but if possible that is one to reject. I wouldn’t want that even if the rust is rectified as it’ll come back.

The ford dealership should be ashamed. What's the point in buying an approved used car, if this is what you may end up with. Has it even been inspected? If it has, it's not by someone competent.

Agree with the others, reject as soon as possible.

Is the vehicle on finance?

Based on what you have said, then this sits well within the short term right to reject - satisfactory quality and as described. Rust in itself would be debatable, but with leak and the electrical gremlins thrown in to the mix, then it’s sufficient grounds.

Am I the only person thinking a bit of scabyness on the bottoms of the doors on a 7 year old Ford is quite normal?

Or that 13 grand is a lot for a Ford of that age?
