Nissan Ariya Evolve vs Kia EV6 GT-Line S vs ?????
Discussion
given the lack of compelling leases, I am exploring the second hand market for an EV that fits this brief (in descending order of importance)
- under 25K
- Affordable extended warranty (or still better, included ones)
- 360 degrees camera
- sub 50,000 mles
- 300+ miles WLTP range
- big boot
- powered tailgate
- panoramic roof
I have only managed to find 2 EVs that fit the bill. Let me know if there are any others
Here are others that I've discarded
- Ford/Jaguar = extremely expensive extended warranty (1K or more)
- VW/Skoda = they don't have 360 camera except on rare trims or as additional packs.
- BMW/Audi/Mercedes/Volvo = expensive extended warranty, additional packs required
- Hyundai = can't buy extended warranty
- Peugeot/Renault = no 360 in this budget
- Subaru/Honda/Toyota/Suzuki = Poor range
- Vauxhall Astra Tourer = poor range
- MG/Chinese brands/Tesla MY = won't touch for now.
- Genesis = smallish boot, expensive extended warranty
- under 25K
- Affordable extended warranty (or still better, included ones)
- 360 degrees camera
- sub 50,000 mles
- 300+ miles WLTP range
- big boot
- powered tailgate
- panoramic roof

I've had my Ariya Evolve e4orce in aurora green since July 2023 and covered over 50,000, it's been an absolutely brilliant car for daily driving, holidays with the family, all the kit as standard too, really don't need anything else and I'm very unsure what to replace it with when my salary sacrifice deal comes to an end.
Obviously the AWD does take range, you'd be looking at the big battery 2WD for your 300ish miles.

Why not Ford, just put the money you'd have spent on a warranty into a savings account, you're unlikely to need it with an EV.
Ford Explorer has all the toys you need and is great to drive.

Toyota is on my maybe list. The WLTP range seems to be very optimistic and the interior quality sub par.
T3, not touching El Musk products with a bargepole for now.

I have an Ariya Advance with sky roof so it may well be that I will stay with the brand. The Kia seems to be superior though (V2L, bigger boot etc) but i am not discounting it.Obviously the AWD does take range, you'd be looking at the big battery 2WD for your 300ish miles.
360 cam and/or front parking sensors is the hard part. Usually only on more luxury vehicles or hard to find top trim levels.
We found the Volvo XC40 or C40 Recharge are a good sweet spot. The big battery versions. They do FWD and AWD versions, with the latter being a hoot as it s very fast. It s a small SUV, but it s well packaged and surprisingly spacious inside, with a decent sized boot too. Pano roof, power boot lid, etc.

Aren’t these just VW ID4’s in Ford drag? Not a bad thing, but maybe also consider one of those too if the Ford version fits the bill.Ford Explorer has all the toys you need and is great to drive.

A Mach-E would fit the bill too, though would need to be extended range one if OP really needs WLTP range of >300 miles We love ours.

Facelift Ariya due shortly too which might lower prices.

What about the Scenic? Same platform but a bit more family friendly and modern?

The iconic is the one with all the niceties and given that it launched the year before, prices are not yet at 25K.Facelift Ariya due shortly too which might lower prices.
but i am sure that will happen in 2026 given the huge depreciation i've seen on the comfort and esprit alpine range (35% in a year?)

An Explorer is an ID4 in drag, a Capri is an ID5. The structure, motors and HV stuff is the same, but the interior (including the electronics/screens) are different and I believe the suspension is tuned differently. Many reviews say the Ford is slightly better, as it happens, but I think a lot of that is more about what you're used to and what you want from it. Plus, of course, which dealer is closer/better etc.

the explorer is also 3/4 years newer? so would benefit from platform maturation and better electronics?A Mach-E would fit the bill too, though would need to be extended range one if OP really needs WLTP range of >300 miles We love ours.
re: mach-e. am nervous about aftersales costs. the boot is also on the smaller side, not help by the sloping roof.

also where did you read about new facelift ariya? couldn't find anything online. i know they had a concept in january and had announced the nismo but that's still based on the 5/6 year old platformFacelift Ariya due shortly too which might lower prices.

Boot is fair comment, but depends what you want. If you have a large dog then it's not the greatest, but pre-2025 cars also have another 90l in the frunk. As a family of four we manage to get to the airport with suitcases just fine, and I took a full size tumble dryer to the tip last month no problem.
Aftersales costs? Mine is now ~3.5 years old, and covered under an extended Ford Protect Gold warranty for £28.80 a month, with the EV bits covered under the original 8y drivetrain warranty.

Yes, Explorer and Capri are newer platforms, though the electronics on a Mach-E are standard Ford Sync4A and work fine. But the Mach-E is broadly reliable anyway, and with approaching 500k vehicles produced in total (it's still selling >50k a year in the US, 4th best selling EV there even after five years in production) the platform is well understood by now. There was a weakness in the HVJB but that seems to have died down with new parts under warranty, and as a high voltage drivetrain part it's a free fix for 8 years/100k anyway.

i just looked at this https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202508225... and then tried to see how much the warranty was. ford quoted me £2445.60 per year, about 8x your premium. not sure whyBoot is fair comment, but depends what you want.
