Hi everyone,

I’m currently in the market for a BMW M240i (F22) and was hoping for some collective wisdom from the sub on a few specifics before I pull the trigger.

The Goal: I’m looking for a 2018–2020 LCI model in Black or Grey. I’m specifically hunting for the ZF8 Auto with under 60k miles.

The Must-Haves:
• Harman Kardon audio.
• Pro Navigation (Widescreen).
• Full BMW or specialist service history.

The Dilemma (Pre-GPF vs. Post-GPF):
I’m leaning towards a Pre-July 2018 build to avoid the GPF for the better exhaust note, but for the right car (lower miles/better spec), I’d consider a later 2019/20 model. For those who have lived with both, is the sound difference significant enough to pass on a newer, lower-mileage Shadow Edition?

I’ve got the funds sitting ready for a straightforward private sale (no part-ex, no finance hurdles). If anyone here is thinking of moving theirs on, or knows of an enthusiast-owned example that hasn't hit the mainstream sites yet I’d love to hear about it via PM.

A few questions for the owners:
1. Is sunroof a must have?
2. Aside from the usual B58 coolant checks, is there anything specific to the 2018+ electronics I should be wary of?

Thanks in advance for any leads or advice!

The car of choice for the boy racers these days! Nearly everyone one I see (M2 Comp’s as well) has those god awful pop and bang remaps. I hope you find the one you want and unmolested.

I had one a couple of years ago, grey with ivory interior, mine was a manual.

I loved the car, it was very reliable over the three years I owned it, the only things that failed on mine were the exhaust valve motor which caused the valve to rattle was was quite expensive to replace at a main dealer, and the second thing was a window regulator on the drivers door failing. When the window regulator goes it causes issues opening and closing the door as being a coupe it should drop slightly on opening and raise again on closing. I have a mate who had a 140i who had the same issue.

My only regret was the choice of interior colour, it was a pain to keep clean and I wish I went for a black or red interior in hindsight.

I did end up getting mine remapped with a stage 1 map but I stayed away from the pop and bang stuff.

I think if I went for another I would want the ZF gearbox, the pro nav and the HK audio. I could take or leave a sunroof.

I've had an M235i and currently an M135i with the ZF gearbox and always think about upgrading to a manual M240i. Is there a reason you'd go for the auto rather than the manual you had? Is it a notchy gearbox?

Not every remap means pops & bangs.

Preferably looking for one that hasn’t been staged already tbh. I heard it’s safer to get it remapped myself if I want

I never found the gearbox to be notchy to be honest and actually when I had it I enjoyed it. I just prefer to have an auto for daily use.
