MGTF step speed (CVTbox)

I have just test driven a 2004 MGTF with the CVT gearbox. It worked fine, but the selector lever was really heavy & quite sticky to move…reverse for example was a bit of a challenge & it was best to check the selector R light was lit up!
Compared to my 2013 Forester (finger light) with a CVT box it was hard work.
This was my first drive in a TF so wasn’t sure what to expect…should I run away screaming 😱?
