Hi guys,

Newbie here. Just signed up for the Wacky Rally at the end of June going from the UK to Bologna in Italy. Need some advice please - we have to buy a banger for around £1K and then mod it based on a theme.

Was thinking old Volvo or Mercedes but looking for suggestions for cool cars that will last the journey (think it's about 1700 miles - including the alps!!!!). All input appreciated (also some unusual theme ideas would be really useful as I am drawing a blank!).

Cheers
Frank

SLK 230 Kompressor, and make it as Halfords AMG as you possibly can. This one is on Autotrader for £995 at the mo

Just search on Autotrader for anything under £1k, manual gearbox and some other unusual feature (like a convertible, in this case). Comes up with some funny things that are in budget. Sounds great fun to do.

As you're going to Italy maybe a Fiat 500 with a load of Abarth badges would work?

You might even be able to sell it over there as used car prices seem much higher in Europe than the UK.

We will be stopping at the Porsche museum in stuttgart along the way and then the Ferrari museum in Maranello - wonder what they would think if I did one of these up as a Ferrari haha

The world is your oyster... I can't work out whether you will have more fun building the car, or taking on the rally challenge.

In Stuttgart there is also the Mercedes museum, should you go down the merc slk route as above....

One thing for sure - it will be amazing fun!

I sold my Street KA to someone doing a rally like this to Romania
Never did find out if it made it there, it made it from the midlands to Scotland at least
