Hi,im thinking of coming out of my Nissan 370z and into something a bit more practical and something which isnt going to scrape over speed bumps etc hehe....im fancying going back into a nippy hot hatch, having had a few Renualtsports before. (15K budget)

Ive narrowed it down to these 3 atm :

Audi S1
Hyundai I30N
Scirocco R

Anyone had any experience of these or have any other suggestions?

My caveat - i want to try and the really avoid the 'mainstream' options of Golfs/Focus - and tbh, BMW's and Mercs bore me on their looks.....i like to have a slightly rarer car in a nice colour.

No experience, but I'd go for the Audi S1 out of those 3 I think, but I have always liked the Scirocco though.

I'm always catching the undertray and the bottom of the front bumper in my 370Z as well! hehe

yeah,i love my Z - an absolute head turner in Le Mans blue - but i cringe when i go over speed bumsp, and it even bottoms out on B roads! Was lowered on Eibachs by previous owner, sometimes i wish they had left it hehe..

Btw,ive been offered about 5K by garages in PX so far on my Z....mileage on 122K....sounds so low,but is it about right? I reckon i could maybe sell it private for 9K...but not sure if i can be bothered with the hassle.

I don't like the faff of private selling either. I always think the 370 is a difficult car to value really, because sometimes they seem to hold their money, and then you look again and they've dropped.

My suspension is still standard, but it still catches though, and you always have to slow right down going over bridges for example.

I'd take the i30N from your list BUT not before test driving a 308 GTI first:

They're a rare sight on the roads but are a very good car.

I know you said no to BMW/Merc but how about a CLA45 AMG Shooting Brake?

Rarer than the S1, a lot quicker, much nicer inside and a lot more practical.

I owned an S1 from new. Fantastic little car, don't see many of them at all.
Really good at pointing down a b road. They tune very well too.

No experience of the others.

My mate had a white Scirocco R and it was a brilliant car, different kinda vibe to the other two you mention. I love the idea of the S1 but wonder if it would be like many quick Audis, a brilliant idea on paper but quick, stolid and a little uninspiring to drive daily...?

These are good looking practical and relatively small being tha a class platform. Also cheaper than equivalent RS3s.

I loved my Scirocco R but it absolutely ate tyres. I'd three sets of fronts in 13,000 miles, never known anything like it.

Think it might have gone to the scrapheap in the sky now, sadly, based on MOT / mileage history.

Ive put a deposit down on a i30N after watching loads of reviews - i like how they are understated but a bit of a beast underneath, the different engine modes and its exhaust sound with rev maching is a big draw....i must cant follow the crowds and get a Golf or Focus....just too common for me.

Mercs or BMWs...just dont do anything for me. The Audi S1 seems a bit on the smaller side..

You must have hammered it everywhere. I had a manual one and it wasn't bad at all on tyres.

I30N is a great choice. I think Hyundai nailed it with their N cars.

Did you go over your 15k budget? Not seen many for sale at that price as they seem to be holding their value pretty well.

I'd choose the S1 of those three, I looked at them last time I changed cars, they seemed quite interesting with having what is pretty much a Golf R powertrain in a smaller package.

Maybe depends on which brand of tyres?
