Hi, Looking to get my 2016 1 litre Ecoboost focus engine timing belt replaced , has anyone got a recommendation of somewhere please. But not too far from Leicester.

Anyoldcardave says he has used someone at a good price but didn't mention of a name.

Thanks

If the car has no issues you shouldn't be paying more than 500 quid with a service.

No idea of anyone in your area though,

I doubt you’d get it done for £500. Parts alone are close to £400. It’s a full days job, with the sump coming off and the timing cover. I think anything under £1500 is quite reasonable.

Thanks for your response. The best price so far, within about 25 miles, is £1000.

So was looking for more like £6 to 700. But don't want to leave it much longer as it's a 2016 car with 38000 miles. Although it has had the Ford oil and filter changed every year.

I drove from Sheffield to Rochdale to use North West Engines to get the belt changed on my sons Fiesta Ecoboost, cost around £900.
Most places I contacted were a similar price but NW Engines had lots of praise from others.
It only had 20k miles on the clock but was about 11yrs old.

I made a day of it when collecting he car and visited Bury Markets for some Manchester tarts, wimberry pies, and Chorley cakes.

Hi all, It seems that the £1000 I've been quoted near to me, is not too far off the mark and so thanks to you all for giving me a bit of perspective, I'll get them to give me a definite quote and also ensure it comes with some sort of warranty.

All the best.

We are £1300 with genuine ford parts, we wouldn’t use anything else. As mentioned above it’s £500 in bits and a good 8 hours work. Anyone doing it for £600 isn’t doing the job correctly. Changing the belt is half the job, stripping it down and washing everything out including the pick up is what needs doing, otherwise it pointless in doing the job

Oil sump and oil strainer clean advisable too. I m pretty sure there are other parts that I had replaced whilst the engine was out due to an otherwise lack of accessibility, but I cant recall what off the top of my head.

Post change, ensure the correct oil is always used in future oil changes to prevent the new belt degrading prematurely

- just found an email I received from the garage I used about a year ago

Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Oil Pump Belt
Oil
Oil Filter
Antifreeze
Water Pump
£960 Inc Vat
This does include cleaning the sump ect.

Some garages refused to do the belt change due to the amount of work involved, so find a recommended garage and don’t choose on price alone.

You forgot cleaning the vacuum pump.

Different areas will have different prices, around Essex there is competition for the work, specialists that do little else, it is a 4 hour job, not all day, if they know what they are doing.

Im dropping mine off to be done on Wed this week, having a few other bits done also so told them ill drop it Wed and fetch it Fri/sat as i dont need it.

My Ford dealer wanted £1700 just for the belt to be done....

I'm having the belt done, major service as its due anyway and whilst it is in bits its a no brainer, new battery as its the same one from new and the stop start, has stopped working, MOT

Sure its something like £1500 ish but the emails on MRS400s account.

We ve had the car from 6 months old, got it with 500 miles on, its just clicked over on Fri just gone to 49000, and apart from normal servicing every year its had 2 rear springs and set of Discs and pads on the front.

There’ll be a slight delay while you train as a mechanical engineer for a few years but… 😀

There’s a place in Derby that do them but not sure of the name off the top of my head. It was around £900 when I looked - fixed price and a routine job for them.

Hi, Thank you all for your suggestions etc. I'm going to vist a fairly local garage called Milll St Motors, who are in Barwell, to get an itemised quote for the work and to see what their workshop looks like. I do like to see a tidy and cleanish area. I would have liked to tackle the job myself but alas my garage is way to small. Anyway thanks again.

Wow, slightly off topic, but this seems to be the very same Carl who used to do 306 GTi-6 XU10J4RS engine rebuilds way back in the day (20+ years) and is still going strong it seems!? Fair play. He was highly recommended back then, great to see he is still doing 'his thing' with engines requiring a sensitive touch.
