Looking to have a slight change on the driveway. I'll be keeping the GL350cdi as it's a fantastic do it all car that returns great mpg, despite costing me about £3k in bills at the start of our relationship some 20 months ago. I also love the colour, spec, etc as grey is not a very common colour on these.

The Cayenne. It'll be used for 4 days of doing small commuting miles then longer miles at all other times. Spec wise I couldn't do without electric memory seats and the heated front screen and steering wheel would be a bonus. Not really sure about other things as spec from new can be quite poverty unless loads of boxes ticked and money changed hands.

Good to run? Reliable? What to look out for? - I hear transfer boxes can be weak but unsure why and have heard of headlight issues. Probably looking at between £10/15k.

Lastly, I do prefer petrol cars but having owned various V8's with superchargers they can be quite painful to fill up where as I feel you can get more miles per £'s with a derv. Previous experience of 4wd have been L322 and L405 5.0 SC. My current GL is awesome on fuel compared to those but not quite as comfy.

Fantastic cars.

Weve had our 2018 one for about 6 years now and really struggling to think of what to replace it with.

We ended up buying a defender 110 as its replacement but decided to keep the cayenne along side is as a commuter / bike carrier as Land Rover offered us relatively little for it. Was worth more to us to keep it than PX it.

I was looking to move to an EV recently instead of the cayenne but it just does everything so well its proving hard to part with

Yes! (My V6 petrol 955 and the wife’s v6 diesel 958)

We had a brand new Cayenne V8 in 2007 replaced by a Cayenne GTS V8 2 years later which we kept for about 9 years.
The latter was one of my wife’s favourite cars.
First one had nothing at all wrong with it and didn’t even get serviced as swopped just before due.
The GTS was good for quite a few years with no issues but then started to have air suspension niggles and chassis control warnings ( PDCC ?) which Porsche never seemed to get to the bottom of.
Can’t recall the average fuel usage but I do remember seeing 7mpg on the computer after my wife had mistaken it for her old XR3i.

I have a 2016 4.2D and spent alot of money on the diesel bits despite it being 100k miles, it had been used as a london car so maybe that had something do with it. Next time i'll go petrol and man maths the extra at the pumps offsets the bork bills.

I got HSW but couldn't see any with heated windscreen so that must be a rare option.

A 958.1 GTS with the NA V8 would be my pick

The silver one is better spec but more money!

One problem with Cayennes is that the front differential doesn't contain much oil and the Porsche service interval is 160k or 16 years which is absolutely mental. As a result the rear pinion bearing in the diff wears and becomes noisy. It happened with my 955 that I bought with 160k miles and my wife's 958 started to whine at 130k. I can rebuild the diff myself but its a big expensive job otherwise.

Listen for a front whine at 20mph - 30mph, it changes tone with throttle or overrun.

The fuel filter should be done more often than the book recommends - you can't check without unscrewing the cover. If you find silver filings in there be worried!

Loving the spec on the one above that you've bought. Also like the two in the links but would like something other than silver or black preferably. There's a petrol one advertised on AT in Uxbridge that doesn't look too bad bit some reviews of the place don't look all that.

Sad to hear about your DPF as that can never be a good thing and handy info on the diffs beer I'm also seeing a lot of horror stories about the transfer boxes and leaks in the V. Probably no different to any other marques to be fair and just a matter of buying one right. Would prefer to be dealer bought as some private sellers seem very good at forgetting some details, usually in faults. My other pet hate is people putting on cheap chinese tyres.

Rear door actuators are an issue as well as wet front carpets from blocked scuttle duck bills drain ports.

Diesel transfer boxes are fine - they have a torsen style centre diff, the petrols have a servo motor torque splitter and the 958 onwards have an issue with water ingress from a badly designed breather (earlier 955 transfer boxes are fine).

Rocker cover gaskets leak on the diesels and people think it’s the rear main crank seal that’s failed. Difficult (impossible?) to do in situ. Ours is leaking from the rocker cover but I’m not too bothered about it.

Porsche service intervals for the gearbox/diffs/tfer are far too long imho. If you are buying a higher mileage example then make sure you’re buying from an enthusiast that has changed them before the schedule.

I've seen a few and missed a few. There's a low mileage one in Winchester that's now up for 10k but was 14k earlier this year. It looks nice enough with decent enough spec but not nice enough to get it. Can't help thinking they look better with tints and the powder coated 21" wheels even though they appear to run on a 35 profile.

Im just in the process of putting our 2018 through motorway/WBAC. Its been fantastic but looking to change to EV.

Had/have both of these.

DPF was given a forced regen which took the soot down from 33g to 9g , had the sunroof lubricated at the same time as the service.

It's got to go back at some point before the MOT as a CV boot is starting to perish, might get them to pro-actively do the front diff oil change as i guess it's not too expensive.

Lovely looking motors. Visually think they have aged very well. The latest iteration is a bit too ‘bug eyed’ but still handsome.

@justin220 - what’s on your EV shortlist to match the outgoing vehicle? Also, car park looks very familiar although I think it’s just the signage. Bennachie by any chance?
